Orf's 'Carmina Burana' perfect soundtack for Bush's speech
was played tonight on my favorite station:
"Oh Fortune, Empress of the world, first you exalt me then you overthrow me".

The third section is entitled 'The Fool":
"I rave about what I don't understand".

1. Orf's Carmina Burana
Is a masgterpiece, but I can see your point...

Also the instrumentation gives me goosebumps, if you know what I
mean.

2. How about this...
...Whereas it is proper for a wise man to place his foundations on rock, I, in my folly, am like a flowing river, never staying on the same course.

I am borne along like a ship without a sailor, just as a wandering bird is carried along paths of air; chains do not keep me nor does a key; I seek men like myself, and I am joined with rogues.

For me a serious heart is too serious a matter; a joke is pleasant and sweeter than honeycombs...

3. Another soundtrack suggestion:
"Waterloo, waterloo, when will you meet your Waterloo?".

4. in a similar musical vein
...my general musical "anthem" for the entire neo-con/Bush administration is from Prokofiev's "Alexander Nevsky" cantatta, the "Invaders in Pskov" song. The cruel, self-righteous arrogance of the 13th century Teutonic invaders as portrayed by the grim, Latin chant in this song precisely matches this whole gang of right-wing fanatics we are currently stuck with:

"Peregrinus excpectavi pedes meos in cymbalis est" (As a foreigner, I expect my feet to be (met with sound of) cymbals) - "Invaders in Pskov" from "Alexander Nevsky" by Prokofiev.

5. I was going to reply "how strange so many
concert pieces fit the Bush administration" but, on further reflection, it is'nt.

6. I have the Fred Astaire version
it goes like this:

"You say, Car-MEE-na,
I say, Car-MAH-na,
You say, Bur-EE-na,
I say, Bur-AH-na,
Car-MEE-na, Car-MAH-na,
Bur-EE-na, Bur-AH-na,
Let's Carl the whole thing Orff"

7. How about Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy'
Over a montage of dead soldiers/Iraqis, interspersed with shots of the smirking Chimp and his minions? Too over the top?

9. Well, too 'Clockwork Orange' , at least.
"Carmina Burana". Great music based on the ravings of monks driven mad by sexual deprivation!

10. I heard Orff found the manuscript in an old desk.
Is that true?

12. I can tell you this.
Carmina Burana was an older text. Orff was not the first to put it to music. I think it was early baroque.
