Help, what Environment Org do I donate to?
I have asthma and this past week I got a bad case of the Flu. I thought I was getting better yesterday, going to work after missing 3 days. Then last night, I had trouble breathing and went to the ER. As I left the ER, I told my Right-leaning wife that it is Bu$h's fault with his horrible environmental record that I went to the ER.

That got me thinking. My wife is a nurse at the hospitol that I went to, so my visit just got written off. I could take the money I would have spent on the ER visit and donate it to a Environmental org. that stands up for the environment. Who should I donate the money to?

1. the Sierra Club in Ohio is making a case about air pollution and asthma
Ohio cities have terrible air from coal and vehicle exhaust. It is one of the worst in the nation. The power companies say that pollution controls would cost the consumers, but what does a stay in a hospital for an asthma attack cost? (Do you have a cost for what it would have cost?)

2. The Nature Conservancy is a favorite of mine. They own the
land and that's a very effective way of protecting it, particularly in this society where ownership is everything.

3. I made the mistake of giving $ to Greenpeace once
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 11:19 AM by tmfun
They spent all the money I gave them (really!) on sending me letters asking me for more $.

I say give $ to Earth First http://www.earthfirst.org/ or The Sea Shepherd Society http://www.seashepherd.org/. At least you know the money will be well spent.

4. I rejoined Rails-to-Trails in December. I am already getting renewals.
When I joined PFAW, all I ever got was renewals. Hey, direct mail put the republican party where it is today.

5. League of Conservation Voters
Biggest environmental political action committee going. They work directly in elections to help elect pro environmental candidates and defeat the scuzzballs. http://www.lcv.org/

I like The Wilderness Society a lot, but they don't address air pollution directly. As the name suggests they work on wilderness issues, which is my personal interest.
