Bush's Hubris = Merit less Society
With every failing, there is a reward by the media for this administration. While MSM shovels the sh*t under the radar or another presidential administrative payed hack with his or her squeaky clean smile puts on an equally squeaky clean scenario to the destruction of our Democracy, people are dying and losing faith in it's government and society itself.

There once was a notion that the "Best" were those who earned what they have been worked so hard for. This does not apply anymore, hence "stealing and lying to win" or "winning at any cost." So how will society react? With this dishonesty and abuse of integrity trickle down or has it already done so?

Just look at corporate driven music, fashion, design and art itself. Sorry but the only thing that comes to mind is "Plastic" and "Tacky". The talent paraded around is garbage and music on the radio sounds like a starved animal just begging to be put out of its misery. TV? Very little creativity. Most corporate controlled entertainment is too controlled. Indeed we do live in a merit less society, just need to be an asshole and not back down from anyone. What a load of shit... a front.

Now we have a media driven Government. A front for public distraction with Fascist Fox, to further align the lazy/crazy into a coordinated mouth piece for the "Powers of Wannabe". To top it off we have (so-called Christian) cults preaching fear and hate into the lost, confused, and desperate, who conveniently find political punching bags in anyone not closely aligned with them.

The seeds of hate have been planted by Bush's regime. They have utilized our own poor and uneducated to fight against us. Do they realize that a "Pandora's Box" has been opened and that the hell it releases will come back to them? Every action has a reaction, and unless a thief leaves no clues behind, he or she surely pays in the end. Either way, the damage has been done.

I pray and hope our country can handle so much fracturing, and that those responsible are brought to justice. If not... say bye bye Democracy for a very loong time.

1. We Do NOT live in a meritocracy. MSM demonstrates that is true.
MSM is the main instrument of mass pretending. Pretending is held in higher esteem, "patriotism", "faith", "dreams", "santa claus", than the more complicated, and demanding truth, as though if you just "believe" something engough, that makes it true.

Have you ever read Stephen Crane's "The Blue Hotel" or "The Open Boat"? . . . pretty existential stuff. Crane was what was called a Super-Naturalist, in the pan-theocratic, not the superstitious, sense of the word. (BTW, "Red Badge of Courage" was also more of balanced perspective on the real value of war, against the phantasmagoria of Romantic Idealism; it isn't that "patriotic". Crane is kind of like Whitman in that regard, though more reserved than Whitman was, or he is a little like Mark Twain about war, though less focused on exposing foolishness with irony.)

My basic point is that expectations in regards to the social contract should be very limited. Merit has little to do with it. Distraction and a very insidious form of fascism are the reality.

This is so evident everywhere. "You're either for us, or against us." All "Life" has been commoditized on this economy.

We are a nation divided. This is very sad, and if we don't remain on active watch, we are standing only just at the beginning of World Wars for Oil.

2. Very Well-Put.
I also appreciate your comment on Crane, being a literature buff myself.

3. Exactly. And I saw the other day someone floating the idea of judging
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 11:37 PM by applegrove
people on IQ scores when the IQ tests have been proven lacking.

It seems to me the only people who have to benefit from changing what we do these days: 'judging people on the content of their hearts' as we do now to 'judging people on something else' & untrue & narrow like IQ - would be people who have no hearts and thus have been "under-appreciated" in their own minds.

Let us erase Thousands of years of civilization and value people who are evil, conscienceless, liars.

No wonder they attack and ridicule the Liberal. Empathy is the mortal enemy of the sociopath. They cannot empathize - it is a language they do not speak. Let us remake the world in the image of 'ruthless political operative types'. Clap Clap Clap!

Breaking News: the foxes have taken over the hen house!!!

5. Big Heads with Puny Hearts
I have encountered way too many who lack in the area of empathy, yet very well educated, even smart. When it had come to empathy and sensitivity to others, they seemed empty or repressed. Sometimes almost devoid of the ability to understand how caring for those around them is not only morally correct, but necessary, especially for a Democracy.

If people didn't care at all, this country would have failed a very long time ago.

4. .....so much fracturing
reminds me of wisdom from a physician years ago, " Don't worry about falling apart, etc. You are like a fine vase sitting on the mantle. Unless you fall off, crack(fracture), you can't be put back together."
Sad, tho, so sad, that individuals and nations find themselves in these circumstances. From an individual standpoint, one learns what one has been doing wrong, to cause "so much fracturing", and can be shown a better way, can be put "together" again, have a better life. Can our Nation? I certainly hope so.
