say anything
(madness thought up after six days on the job)

An art installation. A completely objective electronic setup.

Two cameras face in opposite directions with an obvious mark to stand in frame on each side bordered by alternate color backdrops.

The cameras work automatically, alternating feed continuously in one minute increments. The broadcast is fed with the non-moving subtitle "say anything."

Directions:

One at a time. Speak when the light goes on. When the light goes off, please allow the next human being a turn.

Motion sensors detect if both booths are unoccupied and the display will go to a screensaver feed. If someone approaches and stands on a mark the video feed goes live to that camera for one minute. At one minute the feed switches to the alternate booth if occupied, or the screensaver if it is not. It will remain there for a minute then await the next approach to a camera.

There is a spot reserved for the next in line directly in front of the main monitor display.

This would be shown continuously on a public access cable or web channel.

If someone wanted to sponsor the channel an entire day, they would get a still or animated logo and pay the entire maintenence cost for running the installation. They would be guaranteed a one-minute increment whenever the booths were empty. In lieu of a day sponsor, or on alternate days when there is, any business or person could place a one minute logo or advertisement or film for a nominal fee into a queue where they would play in rotating chronological order . The fee could be based on the length of time a spot is kept in the queue. Anyone may place as many of their advertisements or video creations in the queue as they wish, more submissions showing at a greater frequency. In this case if the booth cameras are not in use, each logo or film shows for a minute minus the "say anything" title brand at the bottom to indicate a sponsored minute. Live feed will always override a sponsor(after their minute) alternating when booths are occupied by two seperate people and be titled "say anything".
