Don't Lose Your Ass
Don't lose your ass when Asian bankers finally stop shoring up the dollar. The day is rapidly approaching when they'll start buying Euros big time. That's when the whole American economy comes crashing down.

It's one thing to be loyal to America, but losing a boatload of money is something else altogether. Get out of cash and get into basic commodities, like metals.

3. I'm crazy
But do I buy gold or what? My money is tied up in CDs right now and the bank charges like a bitch to have it withdrawn early. I have almost a year left to do so. Oh well, maybe I could invest in gold once I get a job.

5. Doesn't Phelps Dodge have a terrible
environmental record? I don't know if I want to give money to
corps that destroy the planet...as a matter of fact, you might
want to check out all of them before financing their
particular reign of terror.

6. Environmental Record
I didn't research any of these companies for their environmental records. These names are there only as an alternative to holding your wealth in cash at a time when the dollar has been declining and seems ready to plummet.

Buffett's Bets

The U.S. currency fell for three consecutive years through December as the trade and current-account deficits widened to records and on concern the U.S. economy won't attract enough money from abroad to compensate for the shortfalls. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. boosted profit 40 percent last quarter by betting against the dollar in a dozen currencies.

Buffett began betting against the U.S. currency in 2002 on concern about the trade and budget deficits.

``The evidence grows that our trade policies will put unremitting pressure on the dollar for many years to come,'' Buffett said in his annual letter to shareholders March 5. ``The decline in its value has already been substantial, but is nevertheless likely to continue.''

8. you are right
I owned stock that had a lot of NEM in it. I read about their track record. Gawd. I sold that stock.

I recently also owned HL (Hecla Mining) and it was a loser - sold at a loss.

The best way to own gold is to buy some from a broker that will buy it back from you. Keep it locked up.

I'm doing well with some investments in international stocks/bonds. I'd recommend that route myself.

When you buy precious metals someone makes a profit on the sale as that is how it works.

It may be a bit too late to jump into an investment without knowing the particulars about it IMO.

9. An Avalanche of Selling
This may be the week that Asians finally unload the dollar. It could be the Great Catastrophe that has been long awaited. According to a recent Bloomberg survey, the mood this week is quite bearish:

"... The dollar, hovering near a two-month low, may drop against the euro and yen on speculation a government report this week will show the U.S. current account deficit widened to a record, a Bloomberg survey indicates.

"Sixty-three percent of the 52 traders, investors and strategists polled from Sydney to New York on March 11 said sell the dollar against the euro, the most since January. Participants were more bearish on the dollar versus the yen than any time in more than three months, with 65 percent recommending selling the U.S. currency ..."
