Your Internet Future At Stake

WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS A FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE
Ren Bucholz, AlterNet
The Supreme Court is set to hear a tiny internet service
provider's case against an FCC behaving badly; the outcome
will have a profound effect on your internet future.

Civil liberties groups are quick to point out why those rules are necessary. "A cable company that has complete control over its customers' access to the internet," writes the American Civil Liberties Union in its filing with the Supreme Court, "could censor their ability to speak, block their access to disfavored information services, monitor their online activity, and subtly manipulate the information sources they rely on." In other words, new services like 'voice over IP' (VOIP) and internet TV could find that the digital roads owned by telephone and cable companies – the only roads in town – won't deliver them to your neighborhood.

Please keep this kicked, it will affect us all.

Thanks.

1. Broadband is available in satellite and wireless.
I have wireless w/ downloads at 2Meg. It is widely available in most area of the US. Satellite is available with any clear view of the southern sky.

DSL is not available here, and dial up is STILL at 26K.

2. The 1996 Telecom Act was mentioned, how nice.
Still, I can get 56k anywhere. There's satellite, cable, and DSL for me. I use DSL.

Depending on what censorship or alterations are made, I will go back to 56k - I still need updated device drivers and I'd rather wait hours to download something than be charged even more for something that is overpriced given its necessity in this world MO.

3. Don't you worry about the monitoring of phone lines?
Morning all!
