Quisling Council –The war of words
One of the most closely fought wars of American politics is the war of words. That is the war of terminology. Once the public starts using a term that sticks, it can color all future discussions. Think “Death Tax”. If we had called it the “Dynasty tax” we would have had a very different position to start from.

Remember “Star Wars” ? This was an off the cuff comment by Senator Kennedy after Reagan’s speech that stuck. The Repugs tried hard to change that (they even ran TV ads with little kids coloring the “Peace Shield”. But it would not stick; it is still called Star Wars. The Repugs don’t always win this war. “Homicide bomber” and “Religious Profiling” has not caught on.

So here is my new battle. The new “Iraqi Governing Council” is the “Quisling Council”
or “Iraqi Quisling Council” .
It sounds great, is short, and is very (accurately) descriptive.

Btw if you are not familiar with the term:
quis·ling (kw¹z“l¹ng) n. A traitor who serves as the puppet of the enemy occupying his or her country.

1. Major Vidkun Abraham Lauritz Quisling
was the person whose name would become a synonym for a traitor, a Norwegian who collaborated with the German Nazis in WWII. Just a little point of history, I thought I'd inject.
