Here in the office, the discussion goes like this...

"Did you hear, Potter won't sign on for the task force because they won't let him micro-manage the FBI"

"Bull crap" < that's me

"oh, it's all over the news today"

so I printed out 2 articles from the Oregonian from the 23rd and 24th, (more coverage than the AP blurb)

A few days ago, the feds blinked. Robert Jordan, special agent in charge of Portland's FBI division, indicated he would recommend a top-secret clearance to police Chief Derrick Foxworth.

"It seems to me that was a good compromise," says Hillsboro police Chief Ron Louie, who joined with Portland a few years back in denying the FBI's request to interview Muslim men

And by association, we unintentionally drag the other Portland-area cities and counties into the funding desert with us.
And the feds apparently are not above retaliation. On Friday, an
official with the Office for Domestic Preparedness under the
Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C., sent a one-paragraph e-mail canceling a week of free technical training for law enforcement agencies unless Portland stays in the task force.

Portland City Council to vote tonight on task force situation


PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Police Chief Derrick Foxworth says he wants the city to remain a part of the federal task force on terrorism.
But Mayor Tom Potter and the City Council are considering whether to drop out of the task force led by the FBI.

There's a dispute over the potential conflict between state and federal law on how investigations are conducted.
