Amazon.com and the Pope
I was just on Amazon and looked at book recommendations, and was presented with this as the first and foremost book recommendation:

"In Memoriam: The Millennium Pope
He was a poet, playwright, and professor of ethics before becoming the first-ever Slavic pope. An unflinching advocate of human and civil rights, as well as the controversial promoter of both the conservative values of the Catholic church and its need to adapt and reach out to the contemporary world, John Paul II both inspired and exasperated--but left few indifferent. "

(sorry, no link, because of how they do their site)

I'm not Catholic, but c'mon, this guy's been dead barely 5 hours and already the profiteers are out!

2. Not surprising...
After all, he's been in poor health for some time. I suspect that more than a few "memorial" books were written years ago, with a first print run last month when he was hospitalized. They've probably been sitting in the warehouse since then.

4. Glad I bought my St. Christopher pendant...
off of eBay just DAYS before the pope passed. I'm sure there's a rush on anything Catholic at the moment.

6. Amazon LW or RW?
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 09:29 PM by oscar111
i thought i had noticed a trend to feature LW books.

But that blurb in the OP is RW, since this pope was so RW.

8. I was just in Border's today and their entire front counter display was
books on or about the pope. It was kind of odd and the cashier said they were flying off the shelves. Sad in a way...
