A letter from a friend living in Rome
This is from yesterday, when the Pope was still on his deathbed:

"One cardinal remarked in a radio interview, that the Pope's current suffering is of greater religious importance than everything he has accomplished in his life"

For a Pope who had so much influence on all the corner of the globe, to be diamonded to his dying days - for me it is incomprehensible.

Another observation - in February (or was it March?) 1998 he had an historic visit to Cuba. But if you will view the media from these days, it was hardly mentioned. That visit was dwarfed compared to.... Monica Lewinsky.
