Malkin Angred Over CBS' Continuation of Final Four
Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin was angered that CBS did not, as a result of the pope's death, postpone the Final Four. This is crazy. Are channels supposed to stop their programing each time someone dies? In addition, considering what happened to the producer (they got fired or demoted) who interrupted CSI New York to announce and cover the death of Yassar Arafat you can probably understand why noone at CBS wanted to interrupt the Final Four.

1. Malkin is angry for one reason only: because it was CBS...
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 08:14 AM by Cooley Hurd
...that evil liberal network which impugned the integrity of our glorious leader.

What did the Fox network (the actual network, not FauxNews) do yesterday? Did they pre-empt their programming? Nope, but you won't hear Malkin say anything about that.:eyes:

How can someone be so intellectually dishonest, yet maintain enough credibility to be published on a regular basis?

3. Hard to imagine some of us are not religious and don't want to
hear about the Pope nonstop. Some may even be of other religions . . . the horror!

4. Ah, yes, they're supposed to mess up the schedules of tens of thousands
of people who've had tickets for nearly a year.

Mess up travel plans for tens of thousands, as well.

Do these idiots THINK before they speak? Obviously not.

7. One of the wonders of the modern age
is 500 channels piped right into your home. The pug-eyed twit oughta pick one that's giving the Pope his due and just watch it, instead of flipping around and seething over the ones with the brass to not follow her diktat.

9. I was slightly annoyed that my husband,
who is a devout Catholic, went out with friends and watched the Final Four and got drunk only a couple hours after he heard that the Pope died. But, I in no way expected CBS to change their programming. I understand that not everyone feels the way that I do about this, and I don't expect everyone in the world to come slamming to a halt. (Just my husband's life :) , as he studied in a seminary in Italy for a year, planning on becoming a priest. He's a devout guy, but he's also an Irish Catholic... meaning he likes his Guinness and his sports.)

Malkin can shut it about this. I don't get why anybody would criticize a news agency or a television station for the coverage that they choose to focus on.

14. But, his passing was in no way a surprise.
It was not sudden, or unexpected. His passing was a relief, was it not, to those wishing him goodwill amd relief from his physical suffering.

His body was shutting down. Loved as he was, it was his time. He died of natural causes, old age, and not as the result of some accident or act of violence.

I'm not Catholic, and maybe that is obvious. But I realize that there are many ways of expressing grief, and many of those ways are private. Even if one is attending a car show, a sporting even, a birthday party or whatever, it does not mean that the sense of loss is not being felt.

The Radical Right in general and Malkin in particular cling to the notion that to be seen being pious is to be pious. They present this notion not honestly but for the purposes of justifying the accusations they fling like rocks of judgement.

Malkin is a paid, professional liar.

27. I thought the radical right hated Catholics
They seem to think the Roman Catholic Church is nothing but a big pagan cult.

At least if you listen to some of the hardcore fundie bible bangers.

16. Your post reminds me of the day in 1981
when the Pope was shot. I was teaching in a Catholic school at the time, and that was the day the graduating 8th graders were scheduled to take their end-of-the-year trip to Disneyland. The principal, an Irish nun, thought that morning about cancelling or postponing, and then reasoned, "The Holy Father wouldn't want us to change plans and disappoint these kids on his account. Let's say a prayer for him and go ahead." Which is exactly what we did.

19. Wow!
Isn't it something how people change? I mean, I'm sure he's the same good person he always was, but his response now is different from what it likely would have been years ago.

(No judgement implied. We all change over time, I believe.)

I am not Catholic so he is just a another person that has regrettably past away but this will not significantly impact any part of mine or millions of other peoples lives. I am fatigued from the on-ending media circus that venerates, exaggerates, and distorts the reality of the importance of events in our world. I am glad the Catholics the world over have the right to mark this passing in an appropriate manner but I don’t need this BS to interfere with my own personal pursuit of happiness. I find it offensive that this event is overwhelming common sense and rational perspective with the hypocrisy of hyperbole inundating the public airways. All the injustices and problems in this world are ignored to glorify and deify a human being and distract from the true message of their faith. Why don’t they spent all this time, money, effort and prayer in helping the poor and neglected millions of our world like Jesus did in his life. I really don’t believe that God would be happy about this type of behavior.

Hey, I'm Catholic, but just how much can you really carry on about JPII's passing? The media has been a bunch of vultures this week.

Is Malkin even Catholic?
