I'm talking generally here.

If you could be one or the other which would you chose, and why?

1. Senator
No need to think about balanced budgets.

2. Governor
Always better to be someone in control of something than to be a member of a large group.

4. I would be governor, for several reasons.
For one, you don't have to compete with 99 peers. You do have to contend with a state legislature but you are not part of it, you can campaign against them, you can use your executive powers, etc. So you can be more effective.

Then there's the possibility of higher office. Governors frankly have a better chance of getting elected President.

Then for me personally I think I am less of a legislation/details person and more of a set-the-direction person. If I ever got into that level of politics, I'd shoot for the state house.

5. Governor is more a workhorse
Senator is more a showhorse.

I'd rather be the showhorse.

7. If we're talking U.S. Senator
or governor of a state, I think the U.S. Senator job is much more interesting.

If we're talking a state senator, I'd say the governor's job would be more interesting.

8. Governor. I could get more accomplished.

Back when I was working for a career in politics, and thinking of
running for office, I always thought that being the governor of a
small state would be the best political job possible.

12. I agree!
It seems to me that in a small state - I mean geographically small and relatively low in population, like New Hampshire or Rhode Island - you could have a lot of chances to personally meet consituents and be close to the grassroots.

11. Governor - it's a better stepping stone to the white house
The last senator to be elected president was Kennedy.

13. Governor
I'm better at setting direction than wonking policy in debate. Plus it's a better stepping stone to the White House.
