The Conscientious Majority
I would like to start defining us rather than be defined by those who wish to make us go away.

We need some interesting ways to define our viewpoint that doesn't exclude anyone.

I think that Dem's/progressives/greens and independents are very conscientious and truly care about the planet and the people who live on it. Should we start with this and then come up with other more appropriate but positive descriptors.

1. Also the Common Sense Majority
Common sense says that an individual and his/her family should decide end of life issues

Common sense says that you don't give out massive tax cuts while accumulating a massive deficit

Common sense says that if you hold a meeting that is billed as open to all, it cannot be by invitation only.

I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

and better descriptors.

I like the word conscientious because it refers to my basis for behavior/action.

I wonder if there isn't some way to include reference to being "wholistic" somehow, not with that particular word "wholistic" because it's too new agey, but some other word that describes how we attempt to be conscientious in ALL things . . . ? A "Culture of Life" is supposed to create that context, but it's being co-opted by the opposition right now.

BTW, there is a framing group here that discusses this sort of thing : http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=252x1

3. Since WE are now the conservative people, we should reclaim that word...
Hubs tells people he's a reep and pissed w/ his party (acting!)

I tell them that "the conservative in me says..." blah blah whatever.
Boy does THAT get their attention!

4. I love talking about how Conservative I am on budget issues!
. . . one of the reasons I was attracted to Howard Dean from the start.

It is good to talk about what Conservative REALLY means. For Example, in economic justice policy issues, a real Conservative conserves not only money, but also PEOPLE.

6. Conscientious is too hard to spell and to say. But the idea of having an

appropriate name is very good. The Republicans are VERY good at labeling, and I am glad to see that you recognize the importance of we Democrats doing the same.

Oh, and a big welcome to DU!
