What should be the prevailing message for '04?
If things remain the same as they are now, I was thinking that the emphasis should be something along the following lines.

Bush pretty much gave the finger to the rest of the world and squandered all the post 9-11 good will. Now he is going back to try and get the rest of the world to get us out of the mess he created through deception and lies which killing thousands and throwing our economy into the biggest deficit in history. We can't continue to think we can bully the rest of the world, including our allies, into doing our bidding. We must change the tone in Washington by changing the resident in the White House so that those from whom we seek assistance and sacrifice from can feel confident that they are no longer being deceived.

Or something like that.

Other suggestions? :)

THE DEMOCRATIC MESSAGE IN 2004: LOOKING BACK TO FIND THE FUTURE

by Gloria R. Lalumia

On August 11, 2003, Former Texas Governor Ann Richards paid a visit to Larry King; a caller asked the following question:

CALLER: We all know that Democratic candidates are reduced to basically soundbytes and ridicule in the media. How can Democrats force attention back to the fact that whether it's the problems with the economy, national security, utility and industrial deregulation are the products of failed regressive Republican Party policies…

RICHARDS: Once our nominee is chosen, the opportunity for getting the message out there is going to be much easier than it is now. Because there's so many candidates it just kind of becomes a clutter. But once that nominee is chosen the biggest problem the Democrats are going to have is choosing a single message and not being all over the place. Because of the Bush record on the economy, on medical care, on education, we have such a wealth of stuff that we can use, that I'm afraid that we're going to get too splayed out and there isn't going to be a concise message. Do you understand? KING: You would make it a one-issue campaign?

RICHARDS: Well, no, you don't do that, but you try to select an issue so that it can encompass more than one or two things and consistently drive that message home

Here’s my take on the situation, Ann.

7. It's got to be
Elect us and we promise to try to do the following three things.

I don't want an anti-Bush campaign. Even if you win, you haven't told people what to expect. Just setting yourself up for failure if you try to make major changes without promising them during the campaign.

9. It's gonna take decades to clean up W's mess, so why not get a head start?

The Bush crew chortled when they laid the line on us.. "The Grownups are back in charge"..

Little did we know that they had stolen id, a vandalous nature, and horrible manners..

They emptied the bank account, trashed the place and pissed off the neighbors..

Seems like they watched "Risky Business" way more times than Good Christians ought to..:)(

10. Must be a positive theme
"We can do better!"

Job creation - "We can do better!"

Status in the world - "We can do better!"

Security without sacrificing basic rights - "We can do better!"

A society with equal rights - "We can do better!"

Helping the weakest among us - "We can do better!"
