Laura Leno Bush??? WTF?? She read pre-wrriten jokes
just like her husband reads someone else's thoughts all of the time.

I thought her remarks were in bad taste, not funny and ESPECIALLY

NOT ORIGINAL!!

The same person who wrote Nancy Raygun's "Second Hand Rose" routine wrote this bit.

Jeez, you'd think from the media attention that she cured cancer or something.

Personally I think it's in bad taste for a First Lady to go on shows like Leno and try to be funny. Anyone else agree?

1. Haven't been following this too closely,
but I heard on the radio this morning that for all her jokes, she's never seen a single episode of Desperate Housewives.

4. Should she have written her own material?
I don't get why people are upset over this, she's a friggin housewife not a comedian. I thought it was amusing and nothing to get all in a snit about. The audience seemed to like it, what is the big deal? They're just jokes. Sheesh.

8. Agree, MrSlayer. I watched the skit and I thought
she was funny and her remarks about/against her husband were pretty scathing. What really struck me is that the blivet* apparently couldn't be trusted to deliver his own spiel in a lucid manner.

5. I agree it's in bad taste...
I watched the video and didn't find it at all funny. I think they are trying to use reverse psychology with that so called comedy bit Laura Bush did. If Laura makes fun of GWB and he laughs none of what was being said about him is true (even though it is) and we the people are ridiculous for even thinking he is that way. Hope I made myself clear.

6. A desperate housewife
Nothing but a desperate attempt to bring chimp's poll numbers up. I told hubbie this a.m. that they are going to constantly bombbard us with those sound bites and then poll chimpy's approval rating...and that is exactly what they did. CNN reported that dim son's approval ratings have not changed!

7. I Just Watched Most Of It...Changed My Opinion
When I saw Pickles take the podium on Saturday, I made a run to the porcelain god to miss her mumbling...then read here and caught snippets elsewhere about what she said...again, I wasn't impressed.

Yes, it was easy to dismiss this as some silly stand-up written by some hack writer for some quick TV soundbites. This regime knows how to milk a PR story like this for all it's worth. I kept this in mind, but then I just saw the routine and now I'm thinking there's more to this than some snappy one liners.

This was the Pickles many here on DU and on other sites have longed for. She took some wicked shots not just at Bunnypants (and this hasn't been the first time), but at Babs, the Chenneys and the corporate media. This was more like a Friar's roast...and if these lines had been done by anyone else, the outrage from hate radio would have been massive. Pickles did good.

13. Why isn't anyone wondering why Pickles toted the water for
King Chimpy Saturday night? C-Span and other media outlets pumped up the Chimp's speech at 10:05 pm all day and they would carry it live. Bushwipe got up said two words and Pickles took over. What's up with that?

I am so sick of hearing everyone go on and on about what a "wonderful" job the First Stepford Wife did - it was written, scripted and I'm betting, practiced for hours on end before the appointed hour.

Was the Chimp drunk, high, more "stoopider" than usual? Why didn't he take the chance to launch a few pot shots at the Press Corp? There is a story there.

16. This Was A Whorefest
Of course it was all scripted and arranged, the content is what got my attention. I would have expected another "Day In Barney's Life" but not something that could be so open for interpretation. This was more surreal than usual for these zombies.

The major reason I watched Saturday night was to see who was in the audience and the rest of the corporate media was still wailing on that Runaway bride crap.

Before I watched the entire clip in its context...I felt the same way you did. If you listen to her delivery on this stuff, this was rehearsed, but with the intention to send a message. And there are a couple great shots that would have gotten rave reviews if it had been said by a Jeanine Garafolo or Jon Stewart.

Even the networks didn't know he wasn't going to speak.

Edit - Stupid typo!

20. Bush does a routine every year at the WHC Dinner.
I suppose it was time for a change.

I don't understand what the problem is with it being scripted and rehearsed. The reason Bush only said a couple of words and Laura took over was that it was written that way.

FYI, the White House Correspondents Dinner has been held every year since 1914.

10. I found it embarrasing and crude.
Jokes about Desparate Housewives appeals to the lowest common denominator. This is a WORLD SHOWCASE. Could you imagine Jackie, Rosalyn, or even Pat Nixon demeaning the highest office in the USA with crude humor? That podium should be used to highlight what is the best and smartest about our nation.

GRANTED: She hasn't shamed us near as much as her husband.

11. So does Leno
:-)

he might write some of them, but there is a reason that Johnny Carson wanted Letterman to take over for him instead of Leno.

I think I have a great sense of humor and she didn't make me laugh at all and believe me I do a great deal of laughing at G. W. Bush.

18. Why shouldn't she go on Leno?
Her husband has already admitted to being a "media creation"...why would she be any different? I personally think they roll her out so that her corporate sponsors can get a chance to see her in person. Maybe we should just start putting corporate logos on everything in sight, like NASCAR!

19. I know!
This is fluff to distract from the real news--but then again, when has the media been interested in real news? I could read jokes off a teleprompter--and I could do it better than Laura Xanax Bush.

23. What If Hillary Had Done a Similar Routine in the 90's???
And said that she and Tipper went to Chippendale's with Madelyn Allbright?

The RIGHTWINGNUTS would have crucified her. Rush would have had a coronary and Hannity would have condemned her for weeks.
