Rainbow flag unfurled at elementary school event
I have to say, it was a beautiful thing. My son's elementary school play was called "The Unity Tree". I just got back from it. It was about cats and dogs, and how one little puppy and kitten who got along taught all the cats and dogs to get along. And as they sang the last song (while signing it), an enormous rainbow flag was unfurled in the background.

Now I am not saying it represented the gay flag for sure - but they were singing about unity and tolerance and the sight of that flag gave me chills. It was beautiful.

And I live in a red state. In a red county. In a red neighborhood.

:::sigh:::: I love the arts.

Oh yeah - my son was the cutest dog up there!

1. I think that's sweet
:) Better watch out though. Randall Terry and James Dobson might be up there teaching kids we can't have tolerance of each other.

Seriously, I have been wondering if there were any fundie parents in the audience who might complain about tonight. I hope not, but you never can tell.

7. That sounds wonderful!
There's just nothing sweeter than musicals put on by little children.

When I was in elementary school, we danced the Maypole every May 1. Every October, there was a harvest festival and we had a processional with the smallest children dressed like elves and fairies and playing tamborines with long ribbons on them. They led the King and Queen of the Harvest in and crowned them. If anyone knew we were acting out pagan rituals, they didn't let on. ;)
