Today marks the 30th Anniversary of the "Last Battle" of Vietnam....

It also marks the day when three marines were knowingly left behind, unarmed, on an island with untold numbers of Khmer Rouge troops. Those men were PFC Gary Lee Hall, PFC Danny G. Marshall and Lcpc Joseph N. Hargrove.

Because of the release of military documents and because of the efforts of author Ralph Wetterhahn, we now know that these men survived on the island for several days before being captured. It is believed that Gary Lee Hall (2 months shy of his 19th birthday) was wounded and captured first. Witnesses say he was summarily executed, but his remains have never been found. His name and the names of Danny Marshall and Joseph Hargrove are among the last engraved on "The Wall."

Please read the attached link for more information on yet another government fiasco based on faulty intelligence and hubris which cost the lives of many young men.

3. thanks for the kick.
This story really angers me, not only because of the marines who were left behind but because President Ford KNEW the crew of the Mayaguez was safe and STILL ordered the strike. It was his lame attempt to show the world the US was still a military powerhouse after the disaster of Viet Nam.
