PBS is fighting back
I just saw a promo on my PBS station (Channel 13, NYC). They showed clips from "Postcards from Buster," Sesame Street"(a clip of Whoopi hugging a Muppet), quick shots of GWB AND John Kerry, Bill Moyers, and a show about how the universe began. Included in the voiceover was praise for science programs. It looked as if they were purposely challenging the wingers. So maybe there's hope!

2. Right Wingers want to make the "P" silent.
On a recent episode of Democracy Now!, some involved parties were discussing this subject - Tavis Smiley was a participant. It seemed common agreement that any force which would classify Bill Moyers' tendencies towards real investigative journalism as "leftist" tendencies is a political force; therefore, disqualifying it from having real valid standing in PBS's decision-making process.

The aim is to co-opt all forms of media critical to the dominant political morality. I'm paraphrasing a great quote from one of the speakers on Democracy Now!: "In the expanding universe of television, with the wide range of programming available, the role of PBS as an independent, public station will have to be solidified. We know there's a strong market out there for public broadcasting, and we need to step away from the cable-news path of screaming partisan talking heads - not towards it."

PBS, from the looks of it, are very aware that these maneuvers are the unsubtle gestures of a right-wing takeover.

3. I'm glad they're aware
and fighting back. I love PBS and hope they never take them away. They have a lot of good shows on there and I hope they don't be taken over. The rightwingers want to control every media outlet so they can always control the message and nobody think for themselves but are purely brainwashed.

4. Republican Affirmative Action is a Hostile Takeover
I grew up with NOVA and other shows of its like, and it would be a shame to see those programs compromised with the inclusion of barbaric, unscientific, hackish right-wing affirmative action pieces.

The right wing has a fine time castigating us for being ubiquitous moral censors - ushering in an era of "political correctness", or rather, the lack of overt religious, racial or gender-based bias in broadcasting; however, they fail to see that the same forces they perceive as being "oppressed" (usually white, male, christian ones) are using their native political leverage to accumulate even more power.

The cries of republicans are not the cries of the intellectually oppressed.
