Awol crisis hits the US forces
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=638635

Sun Tzu wrote in "The Art of War" that an army must feel that the moral law is with them in order to have the spirit to win.

<snippit>
As the death toll of troops mounts in Iraq and Afghanistan, America's military recruiting figures have plummeted to an all-time low. Thousands of US servicemen and women are now refusing to serve their country. Andrew Buncombe reports.

6. So many Presidential candidates, so few elections...
What will the country do with all these potential Republican POTUS wannabees?

2. One can't watch women and children being killed daily without concern
It is very dificult to justify such action even to totally brainwashed GIs. Condi is trying very hard though with her statement "Remember they brought the war to us we didn't bring it to them" This LIE needs public outcry and an official apology from the Administration. Every reason used to invade Iraq has been proved untrue. How the hell did they bring this war to us?

4. Suppose they gave a war for phony reasons and no one came.
American's aren't cowards generally speaking. So if half the people in this country support Bush why is there a shortfall in recruiting? Can it be that Bush supporters don't really support the war as much as they support Bush. They aren't will to go so far as to sacrifice themselves for his war but they are willing to send someone else instead. Come on Bush lovers put your life in his hands, I dare you.

9. Americans are cowards, generally.
I am an Army Airborne Ranger with two combat tours, and I hate to say it, but I live in a nation of cowards. Any nation that spends more on "defense" than the rest of the world put together is not "the land of the brave."

The republicans who voted for Bush like a good war on tv. It makes them feel "proud to be Americans" to watch the US destroy a relatively defenseless third world nation. It makes them feel superior. But they will not go to fight the war personally, even when told the military has an emergency personnel shortage.

I would like to see universal service like they have in Germany and other European nations. If we all share the danger, then we would become less warlike. In addition, I do not think we will be a true democracy until we drastically reduce "defense" spending and get the war profiteers out of control of our government.

5. Bush's cut of veteran's benefits isn't exactly a motivating factor either.
Imagine having your arm or leg blown off and then not receiving adequate care after returning home.

8. What no-one has come to grips with yet
Is the fact that * and Co. really DO wish to destroy the US military, 100%. Their private armies serve them well now.

Our one last hope may be our fighting men and women to turn their eyes to the enemy within. That's why the decimation of our fighting forces is crucial to the sucess of the neocon agenda.

Treason, there, I said it, what now?
