Scott McClellan is IRATE at the American media.
"The report has had serious consequences. People have lost their lives. The image of the United States abroad has been damaged. I just find it puzzling," he said today over the Newsweek story.

Now read his statement again: it's exactly what I feel about the "WMD" report that got us into Iraq.

1. Poor baby
Go tell it to the 1600 families of US soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqi families whose lives were destroyed by a lie.

2. And the more they honk and screech and blow about the Newsweek report . .
The more obvious their panic, flop sweat and blatant attempts to cover up the story become.

4. Man, is he talking about the WMD/ Curve Ball thing? cuz
I can't think of any other report that has actually caused lives to be lost. :sarcasm:

I mean, maybe they are mad that the Koran was disrespected. But it was US soldiers, not Newsweek that did that. It's way old news. Newsweek only reported it.

I don't think the Newsweek article damaged the U.S.'s image overseas any more than your bosses insanity, what with pre-emptive war and all. That statement is almost laughable, if the stakes weren't so high.

19. 'The image of the United States abroad has been damaged'.
This is the first time I ever agreed with Scott M. about anything! He's making progress. He should have said 'severely, and maybe irrevocably damaged'. Tens of thousands of dead Iraqis, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, 'rendering' of POW for torture to other countries. He may have noticed that the Statue of Liberty has been replaced by the tortured POW in Abu Ghraib in many parts of the world as a symbol of America.

But then, I think they know all this and it thrills them to have this image of the US. They are into being the bullies of the world. Otoh, they would like to keep us from knowing that they like it this way, that they thought it all up. Therefore the feigned 'outrage' and histrionics, and less and less convincing declarations of 'we would never do that'. I hope there isn't much longer to wait before the prosecutions begin. Too many people are in danger while we wait.

15. Oh, bullshit. It's the neoCON corporacrats that have destroyed lives,...
,...through their lies and manipulation, their strong-arming and threatening oppression of others, their approval of torture (in violation of the Geneva Convention), their greed and their betrayal!!!

They are the ones completely and solely responsible for all that!!!!

22. BBC World Editor's View
It is hard to avoid the inference that the people who are really to blame are the men and women who have abused their prisoners, not those who have reported allegations about the ill treatment.

What happened in prisons like Guantanamo, Bagram and Abu Ghraib after 2001 has done serious damage to the United States and its allies: not just the dwindling number who still have troops in Iraq, but the new governments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Do not blame the news media for this. Instead, all the effort needs to go into convincing the world that the abuse has stopped, and will never be allowed to start again.
