News Advisory:

Oskar Castro, national coordinator of the American Friends Service Committee youth and militarism program, will offer evidence on what the organization calls widespread abuses among military recruiters that goes well beyond those recently disclosed by Army spokespeople. Castro is one of the presenters at the "I Will Not Kill" press conference, Monday, May 16 (today), at 3:30 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol Building (Room HC-9 -- basement level on the House side).

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) has worked for the past 20 years, to expose and combat what it believes to be the systemic and widespread problem of abusive and unethical recruitment practices. The Service Committee was founded in 1917 to assist conscientious objectors of World War I. In 1947, the Service Committee and its European counterpart, the British Friends Service Council, accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Quakers worldwide for humanitarian relief efforts.

------

The American Friends Service Committee is a Quaker organization that includes people of various faiths who are committed to social justice, peace and humanitarian service. Its work is based on the belief in the worth of every person and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice.
