can't you use Firefox with Norton Personal Firewall?

3. and
for that matter, even if there is an incompatibility between the two products, which I doubt seriously, there are plenty of other excellent, free, software based firewalls.

7. Why?
If you want help you need to provide more information than that.

Of course, the simple solution is to not use Norton, which, as has been noted by another poster already, is a buggy bloated POS.

Unintstall it and try ZoneAlarm.

12. I have the norton fire wall and it works fine
you might want to check your settings. What kind of error are you getting? If you are trying to load pages at a game site, the windows will not come up because your popup blocker might be on.

15. Apparently this is another one of those lock-in deals.
Forget Norton Firewall. Either get a free software firewall, which will be better anyway, or use a hardware firewall.

N.B., Many people have wireless routers and they do not know that they actually do not need a software firewall on their systems. The router can be set-up as a firewall.

9. Ditch Norton
Edited on Wed May-18-05 06:17 PM by salvorhardin
Use ZoneAlarm for your firewall and AVG for virus protection.

On edit, this is what I usually advise Windows users to install:
Firefox
ZoneAlarm
Microsoft AntiSpyware
AVG Free

Just uninstalling Norton completely, and using those products alone will protect you 99.5% of the time.

16. Don't worry.
Firefox in no way disables your firewall. Some of the protection that Norton provides for Internet Explorer may not be available for Firefox, because it does not implement "Active-X" and other gross insecurities of MS Internet Explorer.

If you use Firefox, those gross insecurities are not present, so you don't have to worry about it anyway.

19. Not likely that anyone will be paying you that much attention in
world wide web. You are basically lost in the crowd.

It is where YOU browse to and attachment to e-mails you receive that need to concern you.

20. Do you recommend FireFox?
As opposed to IE? I have a laptop with XP and I always have trouble with IE freezing up when my pop-up blocker is trying to do its job. I've been hearing a lot about FireFox lately but am afraid to make the switch? Any words of encouragement?

22. They aren't mutually exclusive
Edited on Wed May-18-05 06:46 PM by 0rganism
Install Firefox, keep IE, and use whichever one you prefer. The only real advantage of IE I've seen so far is a more stable implementation of ECMAscript (aka Javascript/JScript), if you don't count the massive Active-X security hole. Firefox/Mozilla's tabbed browsing is incredibly addictive; I predict you'll like it.

23. I love Firefox
used with Norton Virus and Zonealarm firewall.

No more multiple browser windows cuz I want to be in several places at once. Tabs easy to use and NO POP UPS.

I just don't understand why it's free.

27. "Must-Haves for safely cruising the Internet"
was the title of a thread in the computer help forum. I's well worth reading. There are many free programs that can prevent serious problems -- firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spyware.
