So I get this nice email about how Denzel Washington visited Brooke Army Medical Center and whipped out his checkbook on the spot and wrote a check for the whole amount it cost to fund a house for the families of patients undergoing treatment (actually, he didn't write a check on the spot, but made a substantial donation after the visit, described as "one of the most significant seen in our history", which is pretty damned cool of him). I had just seen this on
snopes, so I knew it was basically true.
But of course it has to be ruined by the (illiterate) editorial comment someone attached:
"The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Modonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio?"
I hit "reply to all" and wrote back "My question is not why some celebrities are against the war, but why the folks who DO think this war is such a gosh-darned great idea - Rush "Oxy" Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill "Falafel" Hannity -- haven't been writing those big checks for wounded veterans and their families, taking a page from Denzel's book?"
Why do they have to inject hate into even an email about someone in public life making a nice gesture of support to the troops and their families?
