Will the $87B Request Be Approved??
Is there any way for Dems (or repukes who oppose it) on the Hill to stop this or to whittle down the amount in committee? Is it even in Dems best interest?

Congressional Dems seemed poised to approve the request. Where does the enabling of the mis-administration end?

Rummy thinks the country can afford it...can we?

1. Did you watch the two appropriation committee meetings today?
House and Senate.
The democrats, especially in the portion of the house committee meeting I was able to watch, really asked pointed questions.

In the Senate senator Byrd as always led the way. Others also asked good questions, which were obviously dismissed and poohed by the Republicans who had their turns after them.

The representative from New Jersey tore into Bremer (lies from administration, money requested lasts until the next election only, etc. etc. Bremer was boiling, could not even answer).

Ms. Katpur (Ohio) said IT IS ALL ABOUT OIL!!!
How could we hire Chalabi a convicted felon in Jordan.
Mentioning names (Bush, Carlyle, Halliburton, etc. etc.!!!!!!)
Asked other good questions. The last one was: the are troops paying a dollar a minute to talk to their families; couldn't we address this issue out of this money (to allow them to call home).

But in the end we will pay the 87B. I am sure.

2. I get this feeling, too
and it makes me f*cking sick. I didn't see the hearings but it's on the front page of the washington post website.

The question is, is it even in Dems best interest to oppose it? Iraq is a damn mess right now, our men and women are sitting ducks, and the world community aint chompin' at the bit to jump in and help like bushco thought they would be.

Then, once we do pay through the nose, how much worse will our domestic situation become? Education and social programs already squeezing to get by. Who in thier right mind would WANT to inherit this freakin mess??
