Poll question: How do you feel about Imperialism?
Specifically our very own corporate/market driven variety sprinkled with the sweet words of Democracy.

2. Successful businesses naturally expand into new markets.
The American gov’t has the duty and obligation to protect the economic interests of Americans doing business overseas.

Every other nation also has the same obligation to its citizens. Diplomacy is required when opposing economic interests conflict with one another.

The problems come when America ignores diplomacy, and allows foreign interests to be overwhelmed and unfairly dominated by American power – either economically when possible, or militarily otherwise.

The American gov’t rarely allows market forces to determine the outcome.

3. Pyramid schemes collapse without a constantly expanding base.
"For globalization to work, America can't be afraid to act like the almighty superpower that it is. The hidden hand of the market will never work without a hidden fist. McDonald's cannot flourish without McDonald-Douglas, the designer of the F-15, and the hidden fist that keeps the world safe for Silicon Valley's technology is called the United States Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps."

Thomas Friedman, New York Times, March 28, 1999

4. I'm against exploitation
When we work people excessive hours for meager pay so we can get inexpensive products, we are exploiting them. It is condescending and paternalistic to say that they are better off that way. Were the American colonists better off under the British. Shouldn't every people have a right to control their own destinies?
