Demonstrators expected to protest during Attorney General Ashcroft's visit to Charlotte

Attorney General John Ashcroft will be in Charlotte Thursday to talk to law enforcement officials at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Demonstrators also plan to be there to protest the Patriot Act - the homeland security measure they call a violation of American civil liberties.

Security around the Convention Center is expected to be tight.

His speech is scheduled to begin around 4:30 p.m.

Ashcroft spoke to about 200 prosecutors, police and other law enforcement officers in Columbia, S.C. Wednesday.
