KTBI is stepping on KGO's signal illegally - please keep kicked
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 02:28 AM by eleny
KTBI is a christian radio station that is illegally stepping on KGO's signal and messing up the broadcast.

Bernie Ward has asked people to call or fax KTBI and tell them to stop it.

Phone # (509) 443-1000
Fax # (509) 448-3811

2. Bernie said that KGO has tried to get them to stop
Since they're persisting, he asked his listeners to excercise their 1st amendment rights and contact the station to ask them to stop.

4. Yes, I've been having a terrible time just 150 miles away
Admittedly a little bit off the north-south bias of nighttime KGO, but the station is usually quite listenable at night -- and now it's not.

5. Christian radio station blocked KPFA east of Fairfield
There is a Christian channel out in the 925 area code, clayton I think? that was given an FM signal that blotted out the KPFA signal in the central valley several years ago. I think this was in 2000.

FCC gave them the license and it shrank KPFA's listening range by about 100 miles.

From progressive to fundy regressive.. thanks FCC!

BTW this was right after their big struggle.. sucks about KGO I'll email em right now.

6. kpfk blocked in san diego
The transmitter is in tijuana,
but their offices are in san diego.
Strangely, this is a classical music station,
I don't know who's funding it.

8. I'm within 5 miles of berkeley
So I get KPFA fine, when I want it. (thank my lucky stars)
But I think that the 88.1 station was the KPFA feed I was listening too when I went to UC Davis. You could tune it in most days there, with a decent amplified fm antenna, from radio shack, but not after the christian crusade network or something was allowed to broadcast.

I didnt mention the spectrum but I think it was the alternate simulcast on 88.1.

The name Bill Bennett comes up...not THE Bill Bennett? The christian poker czar?

A regular radio network in wild and wooley Spokane and the surrounding area in Washington, Idaho, eastern Oregon.

They are a 50,000 watt clear channel assigned to 810.

10. Good way for the right-wing to fuck up liberal broadcast, use Christian
radio stations to do the dirty work and then scream religious persecution and Christian bashing by liberals.

We won't let them get away with it.

18. They Also Bought At least one AAR Station and Changed it to Xtian Radio
The RW Xtian churches have unlimited money now, thanks to "faith-based" programs
and they are using it to buy up even more radio stations, specifically
to displace and muzzle progressive viewpoints.

They just did it to the former AAR station (WANR) in Youngstown Ohio.
It is now full-time "Christian radio".

This is from the google cache, it has expired at the original site:

12. Kick
I can't get my usual Bernie Ward tonight, either, and I have insomnia.

I'll be calling the FCC in the morning re: KTBI and lodging a formal complaint.

14. Blame God
While you'd like to think KTBI is conspiring, good chance is it's mother nature doing the job.

Not sure how close you are to San Francisco, but from my reading, I'll guess you're not quite in the city or metro area. AM radio acts goofy at night that enables signals to travel for hundreds and thousands of miles. Problem is there's no control. Some nights that signal might reach across the country, another night it won't make it to the other side of town.

While I'm sure KTBI is one evil, bad, terrible radio station, but the days of one station trying to drown out another by tinkering with their transmitters is urban legend stuff. What's more like happening is the atmosphere in your area is favoring the stations KTBI. Try tomorrow or the next night and the conditions won't be the same.

Write the FCC...not bad to have some bad letter about KTBI in their public inspection file, but don't expect anything to happen.

I listen to Bernie here in Chicago...via the internet, no interference at all.

Cheers

16. KTBI not really evil just a typical fundie radio
Fire brimstone and highlights magazine. you know the drill :)

> I listen to Bernie here in Chicago...via the internet, no interference at all.

Bwahaha soon enough KTBI will be able to launch a D.O.S. on Bernie Ward!! Their evil knows no bounds!! :tinfoil:

Kust kidding, but in all honesty I think the problem is that the KTBI was given the signal long after KGO was already broadcasting all over Northern California. The problem is probably FCC selective enforcement, but that area out in concord east of Oakland, is the worst for radio reception.

It's like a lead shielded bowl. You are pretty much stuck with one or two very powerful SF or Sacramento stations.

I take your point about night and AM, I can receive stations from all over the country at night.

15. Two words:
Selective enforcement.

Bet you find a lot of this kind of pirate "interference" on Air America stations in the coming months, and the FCC taking its sweeeeeeet time enforcing the rules.
