1. It SHOULD be 100%
given the Repuke anti-gay agenda.

In reality, it's probably 80%-90%.

2. I don't know, but I would say that it is regional as well...
Gay people in the South (I'm from Texas) are more likely to be Republicans than elsewhere, from my experience. Their philosophy seems to be more about less government, lower taxes (traditional conservative views), and really an almost libertarian platform. They think Democrats are idealists who want to give away the farm.

In other words, most homos are Dems, but definitely not all.

3. I would thinkabout 75% nationwide for pres.more in Ca
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 04:05 PM by mitchtv
less for congress in CA CD45 where Mary Bono took up to 50% (I think) just by virtue of speaking platitudes and attending a few AIDS benefits. You have got to renenber many gays are wealthy white men, who will take advantage of Dem achieved benefits and still vote puke. Then there are the closet cases, God knows what's up with them.

4. From 2000
The 2000 Gay Vote:

According to Voter News Service, 4% of all voters in 2000 identified themselves as gay. Since 1996 this number has fluctuated between 4 and 5%. It is likely that the number is larger, as some gays would decline to identify themselves to pollsters. Four percent of the total vote this year translates into slightly more than 4 million voters.

THE GAY VOTE (2000) - Voter News Service Exit Polls

% of vote Est # of votes
AL GORE (D) 70% 2.9 million
GEORGE W. BUSH (R) 25% 1.1 million
RALPH NADER (Grn) 4% 165,000

Previous Election Comparisons of Gay Vote

1992
CLINTON 72%
BUSH (Sr) 14%
PEROT 14%

1996
CLINTON 66%
DOLE 23%
PEROT 7%

George W. Bush did slightly better that Bob Dole did in 1996, an election year where gay voters were angry at Bill Clinton for "don't ask, don't tell" and for his signing the Defense of Marriage Act shortly before the election.

Bush nearly doubled his gay support over President George Bush in 1992.

11. try to understand a simple fact
there can be more than one reason for something happening. Nader ran against Gore because he had a better chance of peeling off liberal votes than consevative votes. He lied about Gore, the Green party lied about Gore. Nader lied about the two men being the same. He knew it was a lie he knew it was damaging and he did it anyway.

Nader was, in fact, partially responsible for what happened. It is what he wanted, it is what he and the Green party worked for and it is what he and his party got. So there is no reason to give him a free ride. I doubt the Democratic party will make that mistake again.

I suggest the green/nader party stop whining about being held responsible for their actions. It was mistake, move on.

6. Follow-up
It might also be noted that in the 1998 House races, a little more than a third of voters identifying themselves as Gay/Lesbian cast ballots for GOP candidates. The percentages vary significantly by region, with urban centers skewing liberal and suburban/rural skewing conservative.

9. Do you think gay Republicans are more or less likely to ID themselves as
gay in exit polls?

I'm going to have to guess that these numbers skew in favor of Dems, unless, of course, the model they use takes into account the willingness to indentify oneself as gay, depending on party affiliation.

It's usually a verbal questionnaire.

8. My cousin...
was a lifelong Republican, until 2000. He voted for Gore because, 'I'm gay. It just doesn't make sense to vote Republican.' My uncle was so mad he stopped talking to him--not because he found out his son was gay, but because he became a Democrat, LOL.

13. Koch has been unreliable for years.
I seem to remember that he implicity supported Ronnie in 1980. He was always bashing Carter around, as well.

So this is no surprise to me.
