Questions about the travel budget surfaced in June when fellow board members took exception to the cost of Connie Morris' trip to a magnet schools conference in Miami Beach. The board pre-approved the trip without asking the cost, then balked when Morris, a conservative Republican from St. Francis, submitted the bill. The total came to $3,600 for the six-day stay and prompted the moderate minority board members to call for a review of the travel policy
The board's policy committee, which performed the review, is comprised of Morris; Carol Rupe, moderate Republican from Wichita; and Ken Willard, conservative Republican from Hutchinson
They found no policy violations and made no recommendations for change but will meet again to reconsider.

"I do not object to the trip (to Miami Beach) but I feel $339 a night is a little exorbitant, even for Miami Beach. I understand she could have stayed just next door for $150 a night. I have a problem with that now, with school districts having to make cuts.
