When The British Kill An Innocent ...
Last week the British police shot and killed a man who they suspected to be a terrorist. He was not.

Today the British police are canvasing the neighborhood in which the man lived and are reassuring residents that a horrible mistake was made but that their lives are not in danger from the authorities. Its not much but its one hell or a lot more than nothing.

If the same shooting had taken place here you can bet your ass Bush would be on TV right at this moment defending the shooting and suggesting, but never saying, that the man actually did have ties to other terrorists.

Bet on it.

1. I disagree
Bush wouldn't have gone on television just to talk about the shooting of a single brown person. He would have ignored it because he's a self involved moronic prick.

6. I agree
He'd leave it to the mayor of whatever city it was to explain, and then let him twist in the wind.

2. I doubt we would ever hear from Bush on the matter at all.

3. I disagree
You are hearing from the London Police, not from Tony Blair. Likewise, if it happened in NYC, you would hear from the NYC police and not Bush.

9. I'm sorry that I didn't know that the NYPD did nothing.
However, this topic was about the heads of state weighing in on the matters.

10. It's no problem
look up on Amadou Diallo, that's the most famous case.

And you're right, it is about the heads of state.

4. Granted, But They Have Their Own Spin Machine
When the "first" London Bombing took place, there was this jawdropper story floated around for a few minutes early on about an "electrical surge" that caused "some explosions." Then, when people remembered what fuses and breakers were all about--and when the "surge" took out a bus--that story kinda evaporated, as if it never existed.

Folks know that kind of thing very rarely happens outside of bad science-fiction movies...but someone felt obligated to try to LIE about what was happening, with whatever baloney they could grind out on the spot.

But other posters are right; Bush wouldn't touch this, except perhaps to give one of those self-serving half-assed non-apologies that mean about as much to anyone as one of his sloppy salutes means to a Marine.

More likely, he'd have Scotty take the job, while the White House Scum Corps would spin it to make it look like it was entirely the victim's fault...OH WAIT, JUST LIKE THEY'RE DOING NOW!

(Meanwhile, last week police in California responded to a drunk man firing a weapon while using a child as a shield by OPENING FIRE, killing the child. WaPo contributor Ruben Navarrette Jr says it's sad but okay, because the child was the daughter of an illegal immigrant and the mother is suing and therefore must be a moneygrubbing whore so la la la la la. Isn't that WONDERFUL?)

8. And when I suggested on this board....
that they should have just let the guy go, and not kill the baby girl to get him, even some DUers were incredulous that I would suggest it. That baby did not have to die.

5. I don't get a sense of contrition from Sir Ian Blair,

At least not from this Guardian article:

But I could be letting my feelings cloud my judgment.
