Will "Happy Slapping" come here?

Happy slapping is a current youth fad in the Britain. In the fad, one youth will attack a stranger, usually only slapping them but sometimes punching them hard, while other youth with phone/cameras take pictures of the event. Then everyone has a good laugh, except the victim.

Fads that start in one country often spread, sometimes don't. School season is only a few weeks away. Will the fad spread here?

7. Something like that is already happening here.

I had seen a show about these kids driving around, one in the back seat shooting people on the sidewalk with a paint ball gun, while another filmed it. One man on the street fell off his bike into the street, got hurt and ALMOST got hit by a car! Needless to say, they showed off their "conquests" and got tagged by the cops.

That happened in central Florida around '95. I think I may have even known one of the ppl (but around the same there was a rash of mailbox bombings by kids as well), so i get confused on which culprit I knew...

We've been hearing so many stories of them ganging up on people and beating them, now this happy slapping, drunken soccer brawls. Is the unemployment that bad there that they have nothing better to do?

If it makes it here, people will be hurt (and not the people being slapped), and arrests will be made.

10. Not to be prejudiced, but that sounds like a uniquely British

kind of activity. I say this as a person who has lived in Britain and has much family there.

I would be surprised if it spread here. Americans can be nasty -- as nasty as anyone -- but it usually isn't just for kicks.

Americans have more serious crime, but less petty crap like this.
