Rice says US still confident in Iraq moves toward democracy

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Monday that Iraqis have "generated considerable momentum" toward making a new constitution despite the delay in finishing a document.

Rice told a press conference she was confident that Iraq's political process would stick to a timetable that would see elections for a permanent government held at the end of the year.

Speaking after Iraqi lawmakers sought an extra week to draw up a draft constitution, Rice said the different groups "are making substantial progress on their constitution including on many of the most difficult issues before them.

"They have achieved a lot and they have generated considerable momentum toward the completion of a constitution."

1. Maybe she's right. It seems that it works for the insurgents,
at least when they focus on the success they're having...

3. Yep, happy, happy, happy!
Kids getting physically and sexually assaulted.
Coalition soldiers, Iraq soldiers, and Iraqi civilians dying by the boatload.
A growing insurgency made up of both evil warlords and desperate Iraqis who are sick of having their lives intruded upon.
A constitution that isolates and denies rights to large groups of people.
50-60% of Iraqi youth unemployed.

But yay! Cheers for positivity.

5. What do you mean a mess? Total triumph, total triumph!
She was out of the gate pretty damn fast, wasn't she? Shows how scared they are of dropping further in the polls.

6. A real dervish
must take responsibility for his actions and all those that come from it up to seven times! Maybe if Condi WAS a dervish, it would be better for all of us.

Hope you are able to see a Sema sometime (that is the ceremony where the dervishes "whirl").

12. More likely
the Mevlevis (this is the order that does the "whirling dervish" practice) would have you sit down, drink Turkish coffee, and listen to the poetry of Rumi.

8. no offense to any dervish...
I was only alluding to their physical activity. We know the neo-freaks have no conscience so they take no responsibility for anything. Sorry if I offended anyone.

11. hey, no offense
I was simply making a point about responsibility.

Real dervishes are few and far between, but are really cool people :)

(No, I'm not a dervish)
