BY TOM WEBB
Washington Correspondent

WASHINGTON — When critics claimed he'd be a yes-man for the Bush administration, Norm Coleman the candidate had a ready response: He'd stand his ground against the president on key issues like opposing drilling in the arctic wilderness and supporting trade with Cuba.

"I will tell the president, 'Mr. President, I think you're wrong,' " Coleman told Minnesota voters during the 2002 U.S. Senate campaign.

But lately, now-Sen. Coleman's independent streak has taken a back seat to other considerations. Coleman, R-Minn., last week said he'll vote to keep the travel and trade embargoes with Cuba. This week, he's hinting he'll soon cast a vote that would open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.

Thanks a lot Norm. Some of us knew you were a lying liar to begin with.

2. This guy is one of the worst freshman
He got in on a fluke, and hopefully he only lasts one term. I remember he got quite a few votes from a DU poll, "most hated GOP Senator"

7. NPR had a big feature on Coleman,,,,the slug.
It seems that investors want to use the coal in N. MN to make a coal-gasification plant to produce electricity. So they formed a company (Excelsior) and got all sorts of state development money. But that wasn't enough. Coal gasification produces less particulates and so on, but produces a lot of carbon dioxide, which in turn causes global warming. Ya with me so far?

The usual method of getting rid of carbon dioxide is pumping it into the ground, which you can't do in the Iron Mountains of Minnesota. So the investors wanted FEDERAL LOAN GUARANTEES to protect their investors, because they knew that sooner or later, we would have a Democratic President who would want to stop global warming and they would be up the well-known creek.

Enter Pete Domenici, who wants drilling in ANWR. Coleman approaches him about federal loan guarantees for this company. Domenici puts this into the Conference Bill in the middle of the night, at least without any Dems knowing about it,in return for Coleman voting for ANWR.

Taxpayers lose their shirt if Dems go after this polluting company. The people of the whole nation have more global warming, big time. ANWR is destroyed.

End of story.
YOUR SENATOR, MINNESOTANS, IS NOTHING BUT A CROOK.

11. Fuckety fuck fuck fuck...
Why the fuck were so many morons in MN stupid enough to let Mondale lose to some fuckwad who couldn't even beat Ventura.

The only thing good Coleman did was tell the RIAA to fuck off, and compared to other issues, that counts for shit all.

12. in part, because there was...
a constant drumbeat of political chicanery following the Wellstone memorial, which Al Franken describes quite well.
I heard the radio jerkoffs chanting the slogans of the day as I was DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT after the memorial service.
the word had been passed before the thing had even taken place. They would have squealed in mock outrage no matter what had been said. Coleman kept on campaigning, feigning sympathy, when in truth his camp must have been overjoyed.
Wellstone was a monster campaigner in the last week before his two previous elections. He won them both in the last few days, and he would have kicked Coleman's ass.
As it was, Rush Pigboy and all the others stepped in, spewed their vicious lies and enough people were fooled....it is a hateful chapter in my state's politics. But we take comfort in the knowledge that Coleman will be a one-termer.
Mark my words: Coleman is so overconfident yet not-to-bright that he is sure to become embroiled in a scandal within the next couple of years. For one thing, he can't keep his pants up. When he finally gets caught, it will be quite amusing...
