Turning the tables on Rush
On ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown," Limbaugh, the outspoken conservative radio talk show host, said he didn't think McNabb was as good as perceived from the start. The quarterback's career has included two straight NFC championship games and MVP runner-up.

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

If what Rush said about Donovan is true, can't it be alleged that the same is true of Rush? I mean, he's a failed sportscaster, and a bona-fide charlatan as a political commentator. Honestly, how can anybody take seriously the bilge of a man who always cops the "but I'm just an entertainer" defense whenever he's put under the spotlight? Yet, ESPN hired him anyway, in spite of the notable public failure of Monday Night Football to make Dennis Miller--another conservative, opinionated blowhard--a star commentator.

Don't you think the media is desirous that a fat, bloviating white guy do well in a format where he is completely out of his element when matched with people who actually know the game, and may have actually played it for a few years themselves?

To paraphrase Fatman Littleboy himself, there's a little hope invested in Rush, and he gets a lot of credit for his performance that he doesn't deserve. Look at Rush's "defense"--the people who screen the "live" phone calls on his show, the writers who manipulate facts and statistics to fit his viewpoint, the GOP flacks who fax the latest talking points to his show--they're the architects responsible for his hermetic utopia of conservatism, and the front line of defense if reality threatens to despoil his pleasant little daydream.

He's an empty suit--a voice, nothing more.

1. Turning the tables on Rush
Rush is on because he is good. That is why he is getting paid. Not only to continue his all-time best and most listened to radio broadcast, but now as a sports commentator as well.

Bottom line... when Rush speaks people listen.

2. Rush has delivered the red neck fans to ESPN - ratings up 10% for month

and ESPN loves Rush - best ratings since 96 - up 10% for mon, 26% in 18-45 age

Rush has delivered the red neck fans to ESPN

Corporate America is bringing back racists because it pays, and with the GOP in charge, there is no political downside.

In Florida Tampa Bay pre-game discusses how white boys are only competent, while blacks are super athletes - in that liberal sports page at the Tampa Trib.

Bush is a uniter - and our US Media is doing God's work protecting him and the GOP.

See who's tuning into Rush:

The niche is disappointed people, mostly men. Andrew Kohut, the highly regarded pollster for Times-Mirror, has described "the typical Limbaugh listener" as a "white male, suburbanite, conservative better-than-average job but not really a great job. Frustrated with the system, with the way the world of Washington works. Frustrated by cultural change. Maybe threatened by women."

Somebody, in short, who is not as rich, powerful or famous as he thinks he should be, and who wants to blame outside forces. The talk-show hosts help. They blame cultural (but rarely economic) elites and the government for the world's ills and regularly reinforce the listener's sense of being scorned and ridiculed.

8. Go Vikes!
Hey there. I too am a diehard Vikes fan. They are looking good so far!

So far all these replies just prove my point. You all know so much about Rush because you, as well as all those "right-wing morons" listen to him.

Hate him or love him he IS listened to. He continues to be listened to by both the right and the left because he is a powerful and wise voice.

I love him!

12. interesting
i don't listen to rush. i tried to once, but i got tired of his simplistic analysis and exaggerations/lies. a lot of people do listen to rush, admittedly, but that doesn't mean he's wise or "good". a lot of people also watch temptation island or buy britney spears albums.

i saw rush on espn. he's not particularly wise there. when jocks are making fun of you because of your stupidity, that's not a good thing. i don't think that format, or any format where rush is actually faced with real people who may disagree with him who he can't cut off, is very good for him.

by the way, is it just me, or does rush look like he had liposuction and botox injections? or maybe the atkins diet and botox. he sure has lost a lot of facial fat and wrinkles.

16. Rush is good?
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 02:38 PM by Evil_Dewers
No, he's great at lying and distorting and the sheeple who believe his lies (the megadoucheheads) should learn to think for themselves and examine their hero's resume:

Said he'd rather work than go to his high school prom (fatboy couldn't get a date).

Flunked out of college (Southeast Missouri State University) his freshman year. Still, remains a self-proclaimed expert on the economy, world affairs and everthing else.

Chickenhawked out of Vietnam because of a pilondial cyst (a pus filled sac above his ass).

Family values: Twice divorced, thrice married. Met his last wife on the internet.

Fired at least 40 times.

Has sired no children in three marriages. Is he impotent or just a closet gay?

Cannot function in a non-dittohead, non-call screened (non-controlled) environment.

Claims 20 million people listen to him each week yet it is the same four million people listening five days a week.

Had full body liposuction performed when he supposedly had a cocular implant installed. Went missing for months. Blamed massive weight gain on steroids--came back months later weighing 135 pounds less.

jediknight, you sound like you'd be more at home at that bastion of free and open ideas:

17. I've been reading a lot of these "Rush" threads
despite the urge to :puke: with a rather morbid fascination. The entire situation is so telling. NC, you've really put your finger on it. What Fatass said about McNabb is NOT true, but he's a white guy with a platform. Donovan has his accomplishments in the NFL to speak for him. What YOU pointed out about this hate-spewing gasbag IS TRUE. The fact that he's been hired by an organization that is banking on his racist bilge to increase their ratings, as it HAS, is SUCH a sad, sick commentary on the state of America today.
