I'm an independent and believe in libertarian (capitalism, democracy) values - but as many since Hamilton knew - a strong federal govt is neccessary to secure and expand liberty.

I don't agree with economic socialism or big government for the sake of big government.

Capitalism is a powerful, pro-growth economic system - the same system which gives us all the tax money to fund a strong federal govt.

The problems now.. the seeming inability of the federal govt to act is a "legacy" problem, which forces us to deal with these situations in an ad hoc/patchwork fashion. Our laws governing state/federal responisbility are still largely stuck in the 1800s - the states are expected to deal with these problems. In this modern age, when technology breaks down(electricity, oil, water, lights, etc) and social order breaks down - the cost and effort to fix/navigate is way too much for the states to deal with.. only the federal gov't can handle these situations.


We need reform and reorganization.. we need to step into the 21st century.. each state should have a federal apparatus in order to deal with national security and disaster.. an apparatus which works alongside local authorities but which answers only to the federal gov't.

Reorganize, centralize, streamline, reinforce. Make sure we can mobilize the apparatus on a dime, the same way we would with our armed forces if dealing with a foreign threat.

We had the same problems in 9-11... fighter jets should've at least been able to intercept every one of those planes except maybe the first.
