3. screw drudge
They're casting about for scapegoats. Lou Dobbs just blamed the "black power structure" of the city of New Orleans. It aint' gonna work this time.

6. The city should have had a plan in place to use those resources
Will Pitt is probably right about the drivers being out of there to save their own skins, but it doesn't take any special skill to drive a school bus. The city needs to have some kind of procedure, some deligation of responsibility, to make best use of what it has to make sure an evacuation really happens.

20. I could not agree with you more
It is sad to see those buses sitting there when they could have saved people who are now dead.

8. You have to take people somewhere...
What does he expect? You just load people in a bus and drive around the country? He is in charge of the city of New Orleans, which means that his jurisdiction would have meant bussing people from one of the affected city to the next.

Now if FEMA came in on Sunday and said we would like to bring people to shelters here, here and here, do you have any buses?
Then they could have worked together.

10. And take them where?
There was no support infrastructure in place.

They would have boarded busses, left the city, and gone where?

To Northern Louisiana so they could suffer there instead?

14. Just about anywhere would have been better than staying in NO
To Northern Louisiana so they could suffer there instead?

They'd be suffering a lot less.

19. There was a Category 5 Hurricane coming through...
Nobody knew for sure exactly where it was going to go. Do you think sitting on a bus in the middle of nowhere in a Hurricane is an ideal location?

They would have needed to go to shelters somewhere. Until that part was arranged, the busses are kinda pointless. They have to bring you someplace. If not, their best chance was to take shelter in their own homes where they have a small supply of food and water -- or in the Superdome.

12. I see he received his orders from Karl and Karen
That talking point has been THE right wing meme today, we have had it here at DU, on AAR, from just about everywhere the slimy scum can float it. It won't work, just like all the previous attempts to take the spotlight and blame off their guy, it will fail and fail miserably.

13. Guess what? No drivers, but guess who was out there on Sunday night?
Riding in the buses, trying to get people in the buses before the storm hit? (according to WWL) Mayor Nagin was out in those buses trying to convince these people to go to the Superdome...

I'm sick of these idiots blaming the local govt...
