3. Actually, they were watching on the plane.
Howard Averill was on the plane and he is giving personal testimony. He said they realized what was going while they were watching MSNBC. I think he's from NBC himself.

2. Not necessarily
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 08:47 PM by Spinzonner
Knowing how extensively that the airport was prepared for them and not being shut off from the world could be both a comfort and a distraction from their own thoughts - at least until the actual landing moments.

28. Yeah - he'd marry me tomorrow if we had rings
and the license (which is now $100 in my fundie state because we're not going to go get that Christian marriage thingie and provide proof of counseling. :eyes: If we had that, it would only be about $40 for the license - kind of hard to do since he's Jewish).

9. Several passengers reporting the tv's were On until 5:30 pst
Two passengers interviewed both stated that the Direct TV's were left on and passengers were getting info from MSNBC, although the pilots were informative as well. They also reported that some passengers took off their headphones and turned off their tv's because it was too hard to watch.

I have flown Jet Blue. It's a great airline. Each seat has a TV in front of the seat and access to at least 25 channels from Direct TV. It really makes the flight nice.

11. The pilot must have really been cool under pressure.
If he had panicked, it could have all ended badly. People do stupid things in a panic.

15. They just landed.
Looked like a nice smooth normal landing except for the BRIGHT ORANGE FLAMES that came out as the front landing gear tires burned off.

30. It was really amazing. I just finished my last final for the week and
walked out to see the landing on CNN. The pilot landed it nice and easy. I would have kissed him if I was on that flight.

25. No, he didn't. He asked one of the panelists if the passengers would
be watching CNN. The panelist said "no" and said that the TVs would be off during the landing.

13. Well that's strange because
someone reported (CNN or MSNBC -- we were switching back & forth) that the TVs were off. But they also reported at one point that the plane was dumping fuel. Never can tell what the real story is.

31. Some were watching the Daily Show
Some passengers switched channels on their seat monitors and followed their own flight on cable news stations. "That just freaked everybody out," said Zachary Mastoon, a 37-year-old musician returning home to New York.

"It was very scary," he said, added that he changed the channel to "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central. "It just made the situation worse, because we only knew so much."
