NewsMax: "Hillary, McCain to Meet with Cindy Sheehan"

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/9/22/104101.shtml

Hillary, McCain to Meet with Cindy Sheehan

2008 presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and John McCain have agreed to meet with anti-American war protester Cindy Sheehan when Sheehan travels to Washington, D.C. this weekend to cap her national tour.

Sheehan has meetings scheduled with an array of left-wing Democratic officeholders, including Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman - as well as Clinton and McCain, the Village Voice reported Thursday.

Sen. Clinton's decision to meet with Sheehan flies in the face of her attempts to reposition herself as a pro-defense Democrat - although lately she's been scrambling to appeal to her party's left-wing base.

The McCain meeting, however, is completely inexplicable.

...

More troubling still: both Clinton and McCain's office's are no doubt aware of the long list of anti-American statements uttered by Sheehan since she lost her son in Iraq last year.

8. i really don't trust hillary clinton who has gone along with a lot of the
bush boy's agenda, while perhaps mouthing off opposition to it. one of the agendas that she goes along with is that of having to finish the job that the bush boy started in iraq.

and mccain......well, ain't he a shrub ass kisser one hundred percent.

so. not to rain on you all's parade. what's the point of this pair meeting with cindy sheehan. she is not going to get them to change their political positions (the devil only knows what their personal positions on this war are) and they will only give fodder to the right wing nuts when they come out saying anything that is not a definite "stand by cindy sheehan" stance on their part.

9. Freeperland Should Love This One...
Sounds like a Rovian pre-emptive strike...put out the "word has it" and creating a shitstorm that really didn't exist. But it makes for good fodder on hate radio and lots of red meat for the wingnuts.

This definitely looks like a shot at McCain...the fundie and far right never liked the guy and are afraid he's gonna suck up the GOOP vacuum of moderates as the party implodes.

By associating McCain with Cindy it's like saying McCain's having sex with Jane Fonda or eating the babies only meeester boosh are allowed to.

Now, if he actually does meet with Cindy...this is a tactic admission there's a war rift developing within the GOOP and McCain DOES smell an opportunity. If so, then  is on me. For once we'll get to see the Repugnicans really eat their own.

and even though I believe both of their motives are presidential aspirations, they must be commended for doing so

15. At least Hillary or some of her aides are smart enough to see the anti-war
movement as big enough to injure her Prez ambitions. Hillary will use it for her Prez ambitions to prove how brave she is to meet with dissenters. :eyes:

I'm sure Hillary will give Cindy the Vichy Dem explanation that she voted for IWR just to give Bush the necessary leeway to wage war if Saddam didn't comply with inspections. And I'm confident that Cindy will reply that IWR was a carte blanche for Bush to use or manufacture whatever excuse he can to wage war in Iraq, a war that AIPAC wanted as well.

If Cindy is gutsey, she'll hand Hillary a military enlistment form with Chelsea Clinton's name on it. If Hillary wants to stay-the-course in Iraq and increase the size of the Army, Hillary should lead by example and sacrifice her daughter to her war gods.
