This is a great weekend for a peace rally!!!
I know; initial thought would be, "Oh we are going to look as if we don't care about the hurricane victims."

Wrong!

The slug's approval ratings are DOWN on his "performance" (whatever) in Iraq...the country clearly recognizes that if our National Guard troops were at home instead of on their ridiculously expensive and deathly snipe hunt, that we would be "safer" from those insidious hurricanes.

People get this; they understand that the suburbs and "normal" people in the South are not safe...not because of storms, but because Shrubby has used up all our safety nets to go after Mr. Ladin ("dead or alive") and dispose a dictator who never attacked us.

There couldn't be a better time to demonstrate that Americans would be MUCH better off if he weren't squandering our resources.

1. Thanks Stephanie,
I was feeling down about it. That's an encouraging perspective. The hurricanes offer yet another example of how he hurts us. It's especially important that this time, the impact is in his home state, and overall, the pain is felt in deepest Dixie. How will that re-color the red-blue map?

5. Sorry to say this, but marching this weekend is the BEST thing you
can do to help people.

Unless you are trained in EMS/Rescue/Firefighting, there is NOTHING you can do to help the upcoming hurricane victims except sit at home and wring your hands.

I know that hurts some people to hear that, but I have seen many do-gooders but know-nothings get in the way of trained personnel.

We need to go to DC and show those idiots that Americans want their troops home NOW!!!

4. ABSOLUTELY!!! If anything, it's even more apropos; cost of Katrina + Rita
will have even Republicans wondering why we're spending money on an illegal war that steals lives every day.

7. I think your right.
Americans will be watching the storm hit on Friday and it's aftermath on Saturday. They'll be pondering the cost of all the clean up and how we're going to pay for it all. It's a perfect time to point out what a waste of lives and money the whole cluster-fuck is.

9. Yep! Keep our National Guard at home for what they were intended for:
to ensure safety of Americans at home; not used for the whim of a whacko in the WH.

10. We can already see why the events planned for the 24th-26th must ...
... happen.

Many people too poor to evacuate from Houston and surrounding areas; those able to evacuate sitting on highways and side roads with little or no remaining fuel; and, fuel stations closing at an increasing rate; and, very difficult, if not impossible, for fuel trucks to get to the stations because of the congested highways and side roads.

We have a government that violated the Constitution and international law in the process of starting a war of aggression and maintaining an occupation of a sovereign Nation that posed on threat to us.

The, currently unaccounted and likely unaccountable, 100s of billions of tax revenue spent on Bush's illegal war in Iraq, could have been spent on improving our ability to respond to natural disasters and reducing our contribution to creating those disasters by funding the application, as well as further invention and development of green energy alternatives and conservation mechanisms.

We would have far fewer people in the world wanting to kill us because we would have been improving the quality of life on the planet for everyone - by lessening global warming - and, most importantly because we wouldn't have spent the past five years killing people and trying to steal their natural resources and control their fate.

Rita and Katrina make it absolutely clear why the demonstration on Saturday and the events on Sunday and Monday could not have been better timed -- because of Bush and Congress's un-Constitutional and illegal war on Iraq, our citizens have suffered, mortally, and are going to suffer even more.

Peace.
