Mayor White of Houston. Many more volunteer evacuations than expected
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 03:57 PM by xultar
I don't fucking get it.

So they want people to try to shelter @ home in a Cat 4?

I don't fucking get this shit. Do they want people to evacuate or not. They are acting like they are shocked that in a city that close to the shore that people would want to evacuate.

This blows so much hot air back at the rethugs for beating Blanco over the head.

1. And I heard today that folks were being told
they better get their asses out or they'd be on their own, mentioning Katrina, which sounded suspiciously like blaming the victims again.

They'd better get the helpless out, that's all I gotta say. No more dead old people, damn it!!

3. Well the mayor still seems to be blaming the traffic on the volunteer
evacuees. More people than they expected evacuated from a cat 4. That's bullshit. A cat 4 is some big shit! I can't believe they would expect people to stay @ home for a cat 4. Seems to me they depend on hold outs.

6. You tell them to leave, then act surprised when they listen to you
and block traffic.

Reminds me of a photo I saw with a picture of a deer in headlights, and the caption, "Who knew this could happen" and the title, Republican administration business as usual.

2. Most of Houston was under voluntary evacuation
at least they were yesterday. Did they change it to mandatory?

4. No they didn't. But they would want most of the people to stay for
a cat 4? I don't get it.

5. Only parts of Houston were to evacuate
Just the lower eastern part of Houston is in the area expected to flood, so those residents were the ones told to evacuate. The rest of us were told to stay UNLESS we lived in a mobile home or had to pay flood insurance. So I think they are surprised that that many people are leaving.

Also, many people waited until today to see which way the storm was truly heading. Last night I was thinking that I needed to at least go to my office in Houston and ride it out because the projected path went practically through my backyard, but today find that I am safer at home and now on the edge of the storm.

Almost everyone I know is sticking it out. I only know two people in Houston who are voluntarily evacuating. My neighbors, minus one family, is staying, all of my co-workers are staying, and so is my mother and everyone in her building.

Even if we were going to leave, there isn't any gas to get us out of town.
