Could someone please tell me what the troops are saying?
This is my second post bec no one replied to the lst (could have been the instability of the new DU)...Anyhow, does anyone here know what the troops are saying about the lying of *. Years ago, the officers would have been able to keep the info from the troops, but hello? This is 2003. The Internet, Email, troops telephone home every other day...so they must have heard about what is going on here and in Britian.

How to they feel?

1. They do not say it for the most part
they are angry... they cannot say much.

read this blog will give yuo an idea.

But talk to the families, we are pissed... we
can talk. They cannot, remember that.

For the most part the troops have this thing
called UCMJ, so it is up to vets and families
to raise holly cow.

2. I've been thinking
It's almost mean-spirited what they're doing to the 3rd Infantry. Wonder if the troops think that too. Like maybe Rummy was ticked off about his schemes getting outed and in a fit of rage extended their tour out of spite.

3. My best friend told me months ago that everyone in her
unit (Naval Reserve) was convinced this war was about oil and empire, in her words "we're all in agreement" that it never was about WMD's or anything of that ilk. Tim Johnson (Dem. Senator fr. N.Dakota) got up today and scorched the hell out of Bush about his failure to give the military that paltry $100 a month pay raise or better health benefits but instead found money to give the wealthy this huge tax cut; they (military) are plenty pissed about these two things, much less all the lies and the inane "bring them on" comment. (Johnson is the only parent in the Senate with a son in the military, his son was deployed in Iraq but is now home, he also said that his son told him many who were planning on being career military are now planning to get out as soon as possible).

7. While driving I-94 today
Chicago's WGN reported that ABC did a segment on soldier sentiment, and I wish I could have seen it on teevee. But they played the audio. They're pissed, and one soldier said, "If Mr. Rumsfeld were sitting at this table right now, I'd ask him to resign." Another said that if he were told tomorrow that he was going to be returned home in a week, he wouldn't believe it. They're frustrated.

8. If you go to the Army Times website
you'll get a pretty good idea of how the troops feel. Apparently free speech is protected, even in the military.

10. In Viet Nam, at the end, troops refused to go on patrols, etc.
when an officer became a bastard, they fragged him.

Could happen. Already has.

Report from my friend's son in Iraq--He wants O U T ...N O W

Edited on Wed Jul-09-03 05:02 PM by SoCalDem
He is an army M.P, stationed near Tikrit, and even though they are in a "supposedly" safer area than beautiful downtown Baghdad, they are on TWO MAN night patrols, and are shot at every night....and more than once..

He tells HER that he's ok, but he tells his DAD the real scoop, and of course Dad shares with her later so she does not have to hear the fear in his voice.. This is a 27 yr old who has been in the army for 9 years, so he's no wet behind the ears pfc..

The most recent "event".. 2 young boys come up to them waving at them, and of course they have orders to "be friendly to the kids",, so the move to the side of the road and talk to the kids and all of a sudden, the kids bolt and then the firing starts.. This is a common occurence..

He says that most of the time they are scared to death and wonder when it will be their "turn"..

Congrats *....Mission Accomplished

on edit... His Mom & Dad, my friends, HATE GWB, and they voted for him and thought he was wonderful, until Iraq
