If you like both "60 min" and "the West Wing" and live in the East Coast
or in the Midwest, get ready to tape one or the other.

"60 min" of course, comes after a football game that never ends at 7:00/6:00 pm (Eastern, Central), and the West Wing - season premier this evening, is on NBC at 8:00/7:00 pm (Eastern/Central).

I think that this may have killed the "American Dreams." Last year I finally decided the hell with CBS and just watched the "American Dreams." Wish they kept it.

1. American Dreams was my favorite show
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 06:54 PM by bluestateguy
It was up against that stupid ass "reality show" Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", which mauled AD in the ratings every week.

So what did NBC do? They suspended AD for a month, reduced their episode order from 19 to 17, and moved the show to Wednesday. On Wenesday it was up against Lost and Survivor, where it did not have a prayer.

There was a big letter writing campaign to save the show, but it was ignored in favor of the unscientific readings from those stupid Nielsen boxes.

I have asked the Nielsen company to be a TV ratings housefold for 2 years now, and they never return my phone calls or letters.

After the West Wing ends its run, I'm done with NBC, at least until they put AD on reruns (like on the Bravo channel), or seasons 2 and 3 on DVD.

2. Thanks
I had no idea West Wing had season premier tonight, I'd have missed it. (What are they doing on Sunday night?)

4. It's as if they're trying to kill West Wing off.
Putting it up against ABC's Sunday night lineup (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives) is programming suicide, in my opinion.

:grr:

6. Putting anything on Sunday night is risky..
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 06:57 PM by tedoll78
Simpsons and Family Guy viewers are pretty politically saavy as well.

My Tivo is going to be working hard on Sunday nights this TV season. It'll make for good television on Sundays, but I don't like having all of my favorite shows condensed into just one night.

Why can't we have another great Thursday night schedule, in addition to a great Sunday night? Remember that?

:P

8. Yeah
:( I was surprised not to see it on Wednesday night. I used to love it on Wednesday cause then I could still see it and see "Charmed" on Sunday night. But I'm video taping "Charmed" and watching "West Wing" since I've been excited for this premiere for a while now.

11. God, I hate Extreme makeover:Home Edition. Has that idiot
running around screaming through a bullhorn ect. Sick, sick, sick! and all of the reality shows. Never watch any of them. The most boring crap ever. Flipped around the channels the other night, stabbing, shooting, strangling, crying and so forth. Is there any talent out there? I don't think so.Thank God, I love to read.

7. What happened to "American Dreams"?
My dad loved that show. My mom and I called that his soap opera. Hehe. :) He got interested in the show cause his boss's daughter was in the show as a main character. I've seen a little bit of it and it was pretty good and I thought it was very unique. I was disappointed it went off so fast.

10. Here
I was involved in the letter writing campaign to save the show. This article is pretty extensive.

14. We were told it would air in late August or early September
but then NBC backed off, and never committed to an air date.

It still may air someday, or I could see NBC/Universal holding it back to entice people to buy seasons 2 and 3 on DVD.

16. I think the story lines were getting dangerously political
and GE (NBC) got the "memo"..:eyes:

17. That may not have helped
but GE/NBC shows like Law and Order and the West Wing also have gotten pretty political too, and they have endured. Having only 6 million viewers a night put American Dreams on very thin ice, but the fact that the show was a rabble rouser probably served as a tiebreaker.

12. Bummer. What about the local NBC affiliated?
Can you see it with an antenna TV? The old fashioned one? If the station itself, call them tomorrow and see if they are going to rebroadcast it.. may have already scheduled it for 2:00 am tonight. They do do this, you know.

Last Wednesday we had tornado in the Twin Cities, but the ABC affiliate was not going to lose the season premiere of Lost, and they own another, FM station, so they sent us there, for the first half hour.

Still would have liked to have watched the pre-Lost, where they kinda summarized it.
