Statement by Governor Dean on the California Recall

"Today's recall election in California was not about Gray Davis or Arnold Schwarzenegger. This recall was about the frustration so many people are feeling about the way things are going. All across America, George Bush's massive tax cuts for the wealthy are undermining state budgets, causing cutbacks in services and increases in local property taxes. Were recalls held in every state, it's quite possible that 50 governors would find themselves paying the price for one president's ruinous national economic policies. Tonight the voters in California directed their frustration with the country's direction on their incumbent governor. Come next November, that anger might be directed at a different incumbent...in the White House."

6. Yes! That's was "Very well put" by Dean! Quite a different
take on it than what the republican spin is going to be!

I still don't know how they can know so soon ..who the winner is going to be?

9. Yeah, I don't get that either.
How is it possible, with so many different voting methods, to know conclusively that Arnold won? The dlast thing they showed had the recall results numbers very, very close.

2. MSNBC reported a 50% approval rating for Bush in the exit polls.
Of course on this board and from the **ore press we'll hear nothing but how this shows that Dean is the strongest candidate to go up against Bush.

3. Dean is right on, Calif voters bought into the meme that Davis
has ruined CA and the Dems did not counter this lie. But Dean is also right in that this is what will happen to bush* in 2004. Americans are frustrated and very unhappy at the direction of this country, and bush* will pay the price.

I feel that Dean has the quality to talk to the American people and make them understand what has happened during the bush* years.

8. What Dean said
should be on the front page of every newspaper across the country. Every single America MUST know what whistle ass has done to our country. It was him (and Enron) that fucked up California's budget, not Davis!

10. You're damned right!
Maybe when they stop drooling over Arnold, someone may pick this up and print it. And does this mean that we are going to be subjected to non-stop Arnold appearances, Arnold's movies, etc. I'm getting queasy just thinking about it.

12. Good spin by Governor Dean on the situation
I think he's basically right, and Howard Fineman has a column that also suggests that Bush could be next.

13. I sure hope...
what he says is true...

But what disturbs me is the high approval ratings for Bush -- 50% what the F*ck? That's insane...These people despise Davis, but would probably still keep Bush in office? I heard it was atleast 50% approval for Bush's economic policies. I may have to check the exit polls (if they are available).

And it seems as though the GOP did a good job in getting a lot more people registering. This definetely doesn't help for next year. And if Arnold turns out to be popular as gov, his campaigning for Bush could also help...

Is CA go to the right now? Will this lead to the re-emergence of the conservative CA movement? After all Free Republic IS based in CA.
