A word about "Fitzmas"
Americans, for some reason, need a catchphrase.

That's why every scandal is dubbed "Gate": Watergate, Monicagate, etc.

I think it's not only a spiffy catchphrase, but easy on the memory too.

A very merry Fitzmas to all!!!

5. What's ugh?
I don't think it's just Americans by hte way - most humans think of things in simple terms. And even if they think complex thoughts, those simple images and ideas can still reach in.

7. Nothing "ugh" about it, IMO. We enjoy wordplay, rhyme, alliteration and
more. I think these are good things.

8. Shit sandwiches
November of last year, I ate a big, nasty shit-sandwich and learned a hard lesson about our so-called democracy.

I hope I am wrong, but you "Fitzmas" revelers will most likely feel like we all felt after the 2004 elections, the 911 hearings, afterdowningstreet.com, etc... very let down.

14. I haven't seen any Fitzmas jackasses. I've seen people eagerly
anticipating something they've longed for and feeling somewhat giddy about it.

What has moping ever gotten us?

6. Yes - but remember, Treason is the Reason for the Season.
Even as we rejoice in holding bad people accountable at long last, we must remember the more spiritual aspect of the holiday.

21. Couple of things
I think you are confusing the scandal or naming it with the announcements of the indictments. My understanding is that Fitzmas first appeared on, I think the Daily Koz, as the day Fitzgerald announces the indictments - because many folks were feeling that if Fitzgerald handed down indictments it would be like Christmas.

and also in regards to this statement

"That's why every scandal is dubbed "Gate": Watergate, Monicagate, etc."

Watergate was not dubbed "gate" it was named after the office building The Watergate in DC where the break ins occurred. The other "gates" were dubbed that because of Watergate.

That being said I love Fitzmas and wish you all a very Merry one - thinking tonight might be Fitzmas Eve.

29. The Nightmare Before Fitzmas...
... someone mentioned this.

Gee, come to think of it, the "non-political blogosphere" is celebrating an alternative, secular holiday, now, aren't they?

What's it called again?

Halloween... a version of the ancient celebration of
All Hallows Eve, when the skeletons come out of the closets.

Why do secular Americans with their pagan, secular holidays hate Fitzmas? :evilfrown:

Hmm this does pose a dilemma... how many people are getting ready
for Halloween? What could we do to restore Fitz to the proceedings?
Pumpkins? Scary music? Hmmm...
