OMG, did anyone just see the body on CNN?
CNN just aired a 20 second video of troops standing next to a dead US soldier and then covering him up with a sheet.

2. that is how the cracks began to break in Vietnam
when the media began showing dead soldiers. Someones son or husband or father--and today someones daughter, wife or mother.

3. If he loses CNN, he's lost the nation
Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 04:10 PM by displacedvermoter
To paraphrase LBJ about Walter Cronkite. Same here, if CNN starts to paint the reality of our troops dying everyday in Iraq, things will come to a head even before 2004. I've not heard of CNN or anyone else showing dead GIs. This is pretty important!

5. Shades of Vietnam is what I thought.
It was really shocking to see that on tv again after all these years.
Hopefully it reverberates through out the country like it did 30 years ago.....

10. I thought of Vietnam when I saw the picture of the body
today on the MSNBC site and in WPost. Here's WP photo.

Sad. But this is the beginning of the end for AWOL. I have wondered since he started this damn war if it would ultimately cost him his pResidency or if we may even see that memorable evening I witnessed as a kid when LBJ announced he would not seek a 2nd term.

12. I remember seeing Walter Cronkite’s Feb 27, 1968 statement,

http://www.richmond.edu/~ebolt/history398/Cronkite_1968.html

A Clip >
“For it seems now more certain than ever that the bloody experience of Vietnam is to end in a stalemate. This summer's almost certain standoff will either end in real give-and-take negotiations or terrible escalation; and for every means we have to escalate, the enemy can match us, and that applies to invasion of the North, the use of nuclear weapons, or the mere commitment of one hundred, or two hundred, or three hundred thousand more American troops to the battle. And with each escalation, the world comes closer to the brink of cosmic disaster.”
..
sound words for today!

"Dejected US soldiers stand next to their colleague after he was killed in another attack…"
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/030716/168/4p8jr.html

This cluster of troops looks like an awful easy target to these untrained eyes.
