Really. This is starting to concern me. Civilian control of our security agencies is a good thing but the more dipshit exposes agents, attacks CIA credibility/ability, gets soldiers killed and invades additional countries (stretching out forces and opening them up for more deadly attacks), the more likely that the unthinkable becomes thinkable.

I know it sounds nuts but what if * gave an order to invade Iran (or someplace in Africa, or NK...) and the Military said "NO!"?

2. Yes and no.
A military that was no longer under civilian control is a BIG no-no for a Democracy.

13. Another big no-no is...
having a president appointed by the Supreme Court rather than elected by the people.

4. Flashback to 1974
The Join Chiefs were asked, where does the Army stand?

Their answer was very cryptic (to the WH)

Behind the Constitution...

Expect the miliary to be in the same position right now.

If need be, they will defend the Constitution... and by
the way, all those leaks, read the oath, defend the Constitution.

5. The military and the CIA know that the WH has declared war
on them. That is why the military is retaliating by using the press.

8. your right there...
i said before the war started that deep inside the military our generals understand what happened to the german generals who knew hitler was mad and leading the military and germany into ruin. our military is to protect the sovernity of the people and land of the united states against invasion. their mission is not to stick the 3rd army in the hell hole of bagdad as policemen for the corperations of the united states....when the troops are making their own "deck of cards" and the "aces" are the commander in chief and his aides,we are in trouble....

6. From what I hear the military brass
Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 08:38 PM by DoYouEverWonder
Have already told W don't even think about invading Iran or Syria, they are not about to put themselves into something that will make Iraq look like pre-school. Apparently, even the invasion didn't go so well, despite the quick fall of Baghdad. If Rummie hadn't bought out Saddam's key people and given them all free rides out, things would have been much, much worse

At this point it seems, the military is very unhappy with Bu$hCo., especially Rummie and his civilians.

7. not too sure the CIA is under anyone's control, anyway.
but some part of me hopes the the military, while not going totally out of control, might refuse an outlandish order by the current crop of RW thugs.

11. Things like this have a habit of spiralling out of control.
That's what concerns me.

10. I still fear the military, and I have not forgotten the horrible things
the CIA have done. Wow, we are just as bad as Bush if we allow either to go out of control. Don't forget, Curtis LeMay(?) and every other military leader wanted to NUKE Cuba and start WW3. And the CIA role in Central America and Chile, despicable. And SOMEONE (CIA?) is still trying to overthrow the elected government of Venezuela.
I expect them to obey orders, but don't expect them to be quiet about it any more.Drip,drip,drip...

12. Zero
That would be treason and would be prosecuted as such.

14. I think it's unlikely but nothing is impossible.
So "zero" isn't the right answer:-)

16. Fair enough.
Obviously the scenario is extreme but sadly so are the times we're experiancing.
