Most Dangerous/Safest Cities
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 06:52 PM by TruthStream_dot_org
CNN (and Im sure several other sources) have an article about the 'safest' and 'most dangerous' cities in America:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/21/camden.crime.ap/index.html

Notice most of the 'most dangerous' are Red States and the safest are ostly Blue states:

Dangerous (7 out of 10 most dangerous:

St. Louis, MO

Richmond, VA

Baltimore, MD

Atlanta, GA

New Orleans, LA

Gary, IN

Birmingham, AL

Safest (8 out of 10):

Newton, MA

Clarkstown, NY

Amherst, NY

Mission Viejo, CA

Brick Township, NJ

Troy, MI

Thousand Oaks, CA

Lake Forest, CA

What does this say about red state philosophy when it comes to crime prevention?

3. Thousand Oaks/Mission Viejo/Lake fores
The only problemis that many of the safest cities mentioned are actually vast suburban tracts of relative affluence which are filled with repugs.

17. Yep, it's not safe/unsafe--it's rich/poor.
It's amazing how often that happens. It's also amazing how many people on the "Left" seem utterly clueless about the power of economic forces.

4. To be fair, those dangerous cities are mostly solid blue surrounded..
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 06:57 PM by tx_dem41
by a sea of red. And, since law enforcement is mainly a local authority, I'm afraid your theory doesn't really hold water.

5. I thought Maryland was a Blue State?
I'm pretty sure they voted Kerry and they have two Democratic Senators.

15. Baltimore, and the area around DC is blue, but the rest is mostly red.
We have a Republican Governor.

Are you really sure you want to pursue this argument?

9. Yes, GMTA.
I've seen that same argument advanced before, and it always seems so silly to me, since practically every large city in the country is a Democratic stronghold.

And what I really can't figure out is why so many people here are so captivated by the whole red/blue notion, which is itself a Republican talking point. It's designed to exaggerate the strength of the Republicans and make us seem weaker than we are, yet a bunch of people here are so wedded to it they can't even think in any other terms anymore.

What's up with that?

14. Yes. Number # on the list is
Camden, NJ. The reasons for high crime in these mostly urban areas go deeper then red/blue. They are so complicated....I wish it were as simple as whether or not the city is in a red state or blue state, but its not.

12. New Orleans would not be on the list right now
for the first time in recent memory. NOLA had a ten-week murder-free streak since Katrina snapped just last week at the home of a well-known local writer. Obviously it's not going to stay that way as more people come back, but hopefully they can at least stay off all such future Top Ten lists. (Top Twenty would be nice...)

16. Puhleeze. This has nothing to do with politics and everything
to do with money.

The safe cities are all small, affluent cities----not really urban at all.

I live in one of them.
