Vatican clips condom campaigner from Christmas concert lineup
Brazilian official: Mercury's absence 'pope's loss'

A Brazilian singer who promoted the use of condoms in an anti-AIDS campaign has been dropped from the lineup of next month's Christmas concert at the Vatican, organizers said Friday.

Daniela Mercury was dropped after Vatican authorities read statements by her in the Brazilian press that went "against the moral doctrine of the church," said Eligio Ermeti, a spokesman for the agency organizing the event.

"Everything was settled, even the songs she was to sing," said Ermeti of the Prime Time Promotions agency. "Then we received a letter from the Jesuits asking us to remove her from the cast."

This year's concert will raise money for the foreign missions of the Jesuit order.

and Brazil had this to say:

Officials in Brazil rose to the singer's defense.

"The Vatican may not want Daniela Mercury in one of its shows, but we want her to continue her effort and her campaign to fight HIV transmission in our country," said Nilcea Freire, Brazil's minister of state for women's affairs.

1. Maybe they could replace Daniela Mercury ...

... with someone who sings the praises of PEDOPHILE PRIESTS! They can't say THAT'S not in keeping with their own doctrine ...

2. Maybe there's still time to book a more moral performance like
Prussian Blue.

I hear they can use some gigs.

3. Ok so the church endorses evolution but balks at condoms?
No philosophical schiztophrenia here. Welcome to modernity and the Byzantine empire.

5. the hypocrisy of it all...
the church became derailed when St. Augustine became Bishop of Hippo.

St. Augustine, "This famous son of St. Monica was born in Africa and spent many years of his life in wicked living and in false beliefs. Though he was one of the most intelligent men who ever lived and though he had been brought up a Christian, his sins of impurity and his pride darkened his mind so much, that he could not see or understand the Divine Truth anymore. Through the prayers of his holy mother and the marvelous preaching of St. Ambrose, Augustine finally became convinced that Christianity was the one true religion. Yet he did not become a Christian then, because he thought he could never live a pure life. One day, however, he heard about two men who had suddenly been converted on reading the life of St. Antony, and he felt terrible ashamed of himself. "What are we doing?" he cried to his friend Alipius. "Unlearned people are taking Heaven by force, while we, with all our knowledge, are so cowardly that we keep rolling around in the mud of our sins!"

His entire life after his conversion was one great MEA CULPA which the church picked up on and continues to preach today at time placing the teachings of St. Augustine, I think, over, above and beyond those of Jesus Christ himself.
