I seem to recall people saying "We can't just leave"
after the Tet Offensive in Vietnam.

Seems to me that needless thousands died because "we couldn't just leave".

Same shit, different war.

saving face, i remember it too. to this day thousands refuse to admit we lost the vietnam war, referring to it in football analogies.

meanwhile, thousands die in misery

And then I think of that day in 1975, when we float tested all those nice Hueys. That's right, they flew from saigon to the USS Blue Ridge, disgorged their passengers & were pushed over the side (the helos, not the passengers) since there was no room to store them.
