Rice to warn Europe to back off over detainees
Rice to warn Europe to back off over detainees By Saul Hudson

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is expected to give allies in Europe a response next week to their pressure over Washington's treatment of terrorism suspects: back off.

The European Union has demanded that Washington address the allegations to allay fears of illegal U.S. practices. The concerns are rampant in among the European public and parliaments, already critical of U.S. prisoner-abuse scandals in Iraq and Guantanamo, Cuba.

She will remind allies they themselves have been cooperating in U.S. operations and tell them to do more to win over their publics as a way to deflect criticism directed at the United States, diplomats and U.S. officials said.

U.S. diplomats recount how her successful stance against EU plans to lift an arms embargo against China unnerved Europeans, as she sternly told them not to sell weapons that could end up being aimed at U.S. forces in Asia.

One foreign minister spilled his drink when she delivered that warning over coffee in Brussels, a senior U.S. official said.

2. Well, hell, let's just declare war on Yrup and then turn
around and point our sights on South America.

What is wrong with these people? Being belligerent with whole world is not a smart thing to do. I'm waiting for everyone else to get together and unload a can of whoopass on us. With large portions of our military overseas, we'd be hardpressed to defend the homeland.

3. oh I hope they give her the smackdown
What fucking right do we have to tell anyone in Europe to do anything.

It will be perceived as just the arrogant braying of another arrogant ass.

This secretary of state understands absolutely NOTHING about western european culture. Nothing.

17. She does what the Office Of Special Planning tells her to do...
Like Powell did! If they tell her to lie she does it like Powell did. If they tell her to bully someone she does it like Powell did. The difference between her and Powell is, that Powell had a tiny bit of class and a tiny bit of a soul left. Condie is a willing WAR CRIMINAL if she upholds torture. I think the Bush Gang is working 24/7 on the Final Solution to the Arab "Problem."

12. Hypocristy at it's highest level.
“You can’t allow somebody to commit the crime before you detain them, because if they commit the crime, thousands of innocent people die,” Condoleezza Rice

the 70 percent who disagree with torture.. United States Citizens!

The Bush administration sickens me! I've never been so ashamed to be an American then now. For the assholes who'd tell me to move out.. you get the fuck out, and the leave country to those who truly honor what America is suppose to stand for.

Never has an administration ignored popular opinion and they will go down in flames over it too. I think even another year is too long to wait.. nm 3 more. They need to go now!

"She will remind allies they themselves have been cooperating in U.S. operations and tell them to do more to win over their publics as a way to deflect criticism directed at the United States, diplomats and U.S. officials said." (Emphasis mine)

I hope our European friends have the good sense to tell her to fuck off and to remind her that they don't give a rat's ass what she wants them to do. (A simple "You first" might get the job done just as well.)

Edited for shpelling.

because the US wants to take on everyone 'till the only people left on the planet are bushbots. And when there's no-one left to kill, the US will attack itself.

23. They need to impose sanctions on us
The EU needs to deny landing and flyover rights. They should send our diplomats packing, disengage from military exercises. Something, anything. The rest of the world won't allow us to be bullies forever, so they may as well start with the takedown sooner rather than later.

And just why in the hell would ANYONE, foreign or domestic, EVER listen to us again about democracy and freedom and so on? We're trying to cover up our human rights abuses throughout the world by threatening Europe and telling them that they had better get their populations under control. If you missed that part of the article, it's very telling.

(deleted this part, because talk of rifle butts and skulls just isn't productive)

25. That's the response? "We wouldn't lie to you"?
"Tell your populations they should be more pro-torture anyway"? Shit, this is depressing. It's as plain as a pikestaff that the CIA is torturing a lot of people in secret prisons, and wants to torture more. I want some European government to get down to business and produce documentary evidence, and take it to the United Nations. I want the guilty European countries censured by the EU. I want the torture chambers torn down.
